Bloggerheads has already pointed out that the police were lying about the number of officers required do Tony's bidding and remove lone protester Brian Haw from Parliament square in a heavy handed pre-dawn raid.
Oops...
It tuns out the actual number was 78...
So it comes as little suprise to learn that the Police, well Sir Ian Blair Metropolitan Police Commissioner, lied to the Police Authority when he told them that the entire operation cost £7200.
We know this because someone leaked the true figure from a meeting of the Metropolitan Police's Management Board held on the following day.
It turns out the actual cost was £27,754.
You might expect an apology from Sir Ian for misleading the Police Authority, along with his usual excuse that he didn't have a clue what was going on. But no, not a bit of it. Sir Ian is more worried about how it looks. Not how the fact he was caught lying through his hind teeth again looks, but how somebody leaking the fact he has lied looks...
So he has launched an enquiry, not into his lies, but the fact somebody was sufficiently incensed by his version of events to leak the truth...

EITHER THE fuzz produced an initial low figure to make their masters look slightly less stupid, ££7000 is a lot to me !, or they are just incompetent.
