John 'Vic Mackey' Reid joins the Shield's Strike Force

It has been suggested before that Labour drew inspiration for policy from US TV cop show 'The Shield'.

Today's news that John Reid has been enjoying the perks of his job and getting up to join the police on 5am immigration raids would go some way to confirming this...

Home Secretary John Reid has accompanied immigration officers on a series of dawn raids connected with the foreign prisoner scandal.

He watched teams forcing entry to four homes in London at 0500 BST on Tuesday.

The officers made two arrests, while another team detained a Jamaican national who had been released from jail for manslaughter.

Perhaps as worrying as Reid's delight in crashing through doors in the wee small hours, is his uncanny resembalance to The Shield's leading character, Vic Mackey...

Most worrying though, is the fact that John Reid appears to share the same personal philosophy as the tagline for the TV series...
