Something to Bear in Mind...

Tonight on Newsnight, Martha Kearney reminded us all that in order to arrest someone, the police have to have reasonable suspicion that a criminal offense has been committed... or [you know who] could sue for false imprisonment.

Bearing this in mind, the Levy defense is looking a little thin...

...the police used their arrest powers, totally unnecessarily, apparently in order to gain access to documents that Lord Levy would quite willingly have provided without this device.

Wasn't that changed by

Wasn't that changed by Blunkett, of all people, in SOCPA? I seem to remember one of the objections to that was the effective neutering of the threat of being sued for wrongful arrest.

And would Mr Blair like to

And would Mr Blair like to give us one of his lectures on how the justice system needs to be "rebalanced"? I have a feeling he may be reconsidering whether summary justice and "guilt by accusation" is a great idea.

Can't help wondering how

Can't help wondering how many percent behind the police Bliar is over this one...

Snorting laugh. It's the

Snorting laugh. It's the police behind Blair he should be worried about. Can't call up Sir Ian and tell him he's got the wrong man - 'what if the suspect Blair had been about to carry out another sale of peerages? The public should be protected, that's why we had to shoot him in the head seven times'.
