Blair Gets A Grip On His Priorities

Tony Blair is flying to Washington today to receive his latest orders from his bosses. He'll be agreeing wholeheartedly with whatever George Bush suggests in the way of further destabilising the world, followed by making an speech to 'executives of Rupert Murdoch's news organisation'.

So, there's your priority list for the British Prime Minister in a time of international crisis, sucking up to two right-wing Americans. Well done Tony.

I usually cannot bear to

I usually cannot bear to hear anything from Slaughterers Tony and George anymore but I shall watch today. Has his handler Irwin Stelzrrrrr gone with him?

I thought Rupert was

I thought Rupert was Australian?

Murdoch was born Australian,

Murdoch was born Australian, but now considers himself a citizen (owner?) of the world. In the UK, he and his media mouthpieces (such as the Times and the Sun) do not hesitate to editorialise about what "we, the voters" want. In the USA he now habitually talks about "us", including himself as an American. The only thing he never openly admits is that he is a cynical, ruthless, pragmatic, money-driven cosmopolitan upstart. (If you haven't ever seen the film "Fierce Creatures", don't miss its superb portrait of Murdoch - under a different name, of course, but still unmistakeable).

There was also "Black and White" (2002).

Yea folks, ya gotta see it, check it out it's "interesting."

Hopeless.

Geeze - Bush and The Poodle

Geeze - Bush and The Poodle are giving a news conference right now ... Bush even has Blair saying crap like "9/11 changed everything."

We're sending him back, you know. He can't stay here.

I have just listened to

I have just listened to bush/blair press conference. It started of with a joke about open microphones - nice to see the usual bush sensitivity in action, while hundreds die as a direct result of his refusal to call in the dogs.

What struck me most when listening to the embicile making his illogical and un-reasoned responses to the situation is that not one single journalist there asked a question that wasn't couched in the acceptance of the Israeli position. i.e. there can be no peace until lots of Lebanese people have been killed and this was all started by Hesbollah.

I am now in despair that our civilisation has slipped into Nazism. I find it increasingly difficult to maintain a non-violent attitude... I recently found myself cheering at IDF losses. What have these two men done to us?

If those in Lebanon were

If those in Lebanon were able to destroy ten buildings in Israeli for every bomb that was dropped on themselves, the attacks would stop pretty quickly. Israelis is already going all-out, so some fighting from the other side can only make it less.

Sure, Israel has a right to exist and defend itself, rather like imperial Japan in the summer of 1945 had a right to exist. However, in a civilized world, Israel would have by now been invaded, occupied, its military hardware confiscated, its leaders prosecuted, and government reinstated along strictly non-aggressive lines, as was Japan.

Our government covering-up for the emergency shipping of weapons from America really makes me sick to the heart. They couldn't let any confusion or bureaocracy get in the way.

goatchurch: Israel compared

goatchurch: Israel compared to Imperial Japan. Really?
It's quite impossible to respond to such idiotic comments. For your own good, stay off the drugs.

It's quite impossible to respond to such idiotic comments.

err, so why are you responding? u phuck brained idiot!

"I am now in despair that

"I am now in despair that our civilisation has slipped into Nazism."

Having studied history - especially the military sort - for years, I think it is both better and worse than you fear. It's not so much a matter of us "slipping into Nazism", as that the way the Nazis behaved was not so utterly exceptional as people like to believe. Sure, the sheer scale and cynicism of their murders was unprecedented - except for Stalin's "purges" which began rather earlier and may well have killed more people. Then look at the Cambodian and Rwandan genocides, and what happened in China. Consider the near-extermination of at least 10 million Native Americans, plus many more in Central and South America.

That's just downright genocide. When it comes to using force against those who are supposedly weaker, that is a far more widespread practice. Who engages in it? According to my reading of history, anyone who has the military power and believes they can get away with it. (Hence the stupider and more ignorant the leadership, the more likely that they will resort to violence).

The conclusion of which is

The conclusion of which is that it's necessary to stop selling arms to Israel sharpish. This is where I disagree with the neocon line (surprise surprise) by saying that before you start worrying about proliferation of WMDs you need to control proliferation of conventional weapons, which really do cause mass destruction.

The majority of the

The majority of the population of, say, UK/US are not actively against the wars that are being conducted in their name. In fact these two governments were re-elected even after their lies over Iraq became public knowledge - how does this reflect on our democracy and values to the people of the Middle East?

The media is so out of touch with reality it's scary. How much Israeli war propoganda has each UK/US citizen been subjected to daily over the last two weeks? Recent public opinion polls in the US and UK show public majority support for Israeli actions.

The Nazis would have got nowhere without the support/complacency of the German people. The Nazis got that support by creating fear and then using propoganda to push people to ever more extreme positions.

De-humanising an entire race of people so that killing them is of no significance is what the Nazis did to the Jews. We now see the Israeli/US/UK axis doing the same to the Arabs, e.g. they don't share our values and want to destroy our civilisation. OK its not as blatant as 1930s Germany, but hey - we're all more sophisticated now.

Its the populations of these countries that are slipping into the Nazi mind-set which has been created by the Government/Media machine. We have seen in our own political discourse a complete removal of the left-wing (anti-war, social justice, shared wealth etc.) from politics and marginalised as radicals/extremists.

Because the populations has become Nazified, political parties are setting their agendas to appeal to them as its the only way they can be elected. So it seems like a downward spiral towards a totalitarian system where there is only one correct version of events (those portrayed by the likes of Murdoch) and only one possible response to those events, with no discussion or debate - it's an elected dictatorship. From now on we will always be governed by dictaors. Stalin, Hiltler, Pol Pot - they're all the same murderous dictators.

The bottom line is that the UK/US economies are dependent on war, until these populations are willing to accept a (slightly) lower standard of life (or better wealth re-distribution - one man owns $60 billion)we will always have war-mongers in charge.

'We got around to the

'We got around to the subject of war again and I said that, contrary to his attitude, I did not think that the common people are very thankful for leaders who bring them war and destruction.

'"Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."

'"There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars."

'"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."'
