Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill ... the world has been here before.
"Hitler's legal power was based upon the 'Enabling Act', which was passed quite legally by the Reichstag and which allowed the Fuehrer and his representatives, in plain language, to be what they wanted, or in legal language, to issue regulations having the force of law. Exactly the same type of act was passed by the Knesset [Israeli's Parliament] immediately after the 1967 conquest granting the Israeli governor and his representatives the power of Hitler, which they use in Hitlerian manner."
(Dr. Israel Shahak, Chairperson of the Israeli League for Human and Civil Rights, and a survivor of the Belsen concentration camp, commenting on the Israeli military's Emergency Regulations following the 1967 War. Palestine, vol. 12, December 1983.)
Proof positive of the basis of Blair's politics.
"... allowed the Fuehrer and his representatives ... to issue regulations having the force of law."
Be scared. Be very scared.
There are other similarities
There are other similarities between NuLab and the Third Reich. For example:
"Sir Richard Packer, former permanent secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture... compared his position to a similar bureaucrat in the first years of Hitler's Third Reich. 'After a while you wondered why the system of cabinet committees was not delivering – then you realised that the government had set up a completely different system to bypass them. In one respect it reminded me of the Third Reich where there were overlapping responsibilities and nobody knew where ultimate responsibility lay. There are groups at the centre with the prime minister's ear, and I rather think that for those out on the periphery it seems as though if something goes wrong departmental responsibility is clear. If something goes right, they read in the newspaper that it was all the prime minister's idea.'" [from The Blairs and Their Court, by Francis Beckett and David Henke]
Plus of course, Hitler came to power on a ticket that was thin on policy, but full of promise that "things can only get better".
I believe that Bliar has no
I believe that Bliar has no intention of ever leaving No10 voluntarily - just as I suspect his Master has no intention of leaving the White House. What's the betting there will will an assumption of emergency powers to delay the next election indefinitly?
What's the betting there
What's the betting there will will an assumption of emergency powers to delay the next election indefinitly?
Certainly worth investing a few quid with Mr. Ladbroke.
Some Yanks are beginning to
Some Yanks are beginning to suspect exactly the same about BushCo. It looks as though Emergency Powers Acts are in place all over.
Looks like They need yet another "Pearl Harbor".
Long-ago versions of the 155mm nuke artillery shell were not that powerful, but must be in several kilo-tons by now. Just a question of putting the right fingerprints on 'em.
Gunner frog.
This is scary!(Ans a bit too
This is scary!(Ans a bit too familiar!)
"Naturally, the common people don't want war,but after all,it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy,or a fascist dictatorship,or a parliament,or a communist dictatorship.Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country."

the only thing genuine about
the only thing genuine about tony blair, is the fact it is a charlatan.
I'm usually rather wary of
I'm usually rather wary of comparing Blair to Hitler - they're both ghastly in their own peculiar ways, and Blair reminds me of Comrade Stalin as much as the late Fuhrer (Stalin's cognitive dissonance about intelligence matters is a noteworthy parallel, plus the internal Party control-freakery).
However, the really scary one is Binyamin Netanyahu - there's one who's well over the loony event horizon and accelerating straight for Planet Nazi. If I understood him correctly, the West should be supporting Israel in killing scores of Lebanese civilians in order to stop Iran getting nuclear weapons. He trotted out the Blair 'shared values' line, too. They aren't my values, sunshine, so piss off.
There are certainly some
There are certainly some parallels between the rise of the Nazi party and the rise of New Labour. There is the propaganda, the rise to power outside traditional channels, the use of scapegoats and the authoritarian assault on civil liberties. The comparison is a little extreme though. I think New Labour is more akin to Mussolini's fascist party, particularly the merger of state and corporations. Also, one thing you cannot accuse Hitler of being was unpatriotic, whereas I think Tony has no care for the UK at all: he is beholden purely to power and money.
New Labour is a peculiar phenomenom; I think it is a result of the interaction between an old-fashioned, tradition-based parliamentary system with media and PR-based power systems. New Labour or New Conservatives won't go away until there is a complete reform of the parliamentary system to remove this vulnerability.
"Tony Blair is preparing to
"Tony Blair is preparing to hand over the reins of power to his deputy John Prescott later on Friday as he jets off on his annual summer holiday. The prime minister has insisted he will remain involved in solving ..."

Scary or what?
But wait people, good ol' BBC soon make us feel better @ 1025BST.
"Tony Blair is to delay his annual summer holiday to continue working on a United Nations resolution to the Lebanon crisis.
He is now expected to depart for his three week break in the next two days, it is understood. "
No mention of Prescott now, obviously some junior hack screwed up. Still as long as the people don't get the wrong impression.
It'll be the 'But you have
It'll be the 'But you have ALL mis-understood me' lark again?
This story has changed YET
This story has changed YET again, now it mentions Prescott.
Jeez, the beebs phones must have been hot from Tone and John's offices this morning.

WOW! The big interaction!
WOW! The big interaction! The peculiar phenomenom!
New Labour is a peculiar phenomenom; I think it is a result of the interaction between an old-fashioned, tradition-based parliamentary system with media and PR-based power systems.
You mean, ever since people could talk together (parliamentary system), and grew, spreading knowledge (media), best idea wins (PR-based power systems), I AM impressed!
I love the; "is more akin to Mussolini's fascist party." How old are you? A hundred and fricking twelve, or 13.
Oh yea, fiat.
Oh yea, fiat.
This is quite the most
This is quite the most amazing about turn I have seen on a story from the beeb in a long time.
In the course of two hours we go from "Tony pisses off on holiday" to "Tony dosen't go on holiday so he can fix the world".
There is not a single change in the substance of the story, just a nice play around with words and semantics.
Who's more interested in telling the BBC what to say rather than doing any real work?
Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.
He obviously heard the call
He obviously heard the call from Bush...
Blair Blair... I love you... But we only have 48hrs to save the middle east!

phatballedvoyager, our resident troll appears to be back. Readers can try arguing with him if they like, but be warned, it is pointless as he has yet to make any sense here.
Before you bite, browse some of his bile, and then consider if it is worth your time.
Blairwatch IS lame.
Blairwatch IS lame. Hahahahahahahah
I stop over every few days to visit the stupid ones.
Yikes! Blair! He's really bad! We must watch him!
Stupid fucking site.
I suspect we are going to
I suspect we are going to see a lot more of phatballedvoyager until the school holidays are over.
Yes, then I'll have to go
Yes, then I'll have to go back teaching your foul offspring, who happen to be just like their parents; mindless members of the hive, except with zits.
