Jimmy Carter on Tony Blair

From The Telegraph
"We now have a situation where America is so unpopular overseas that even in countries like Egypt and Jordan our approval ratings are less than five per cent. It's a shameful and pitiful state of affairs and I hold your British Prime Minister to be substantially responsible for being so compliant and subservient."
So, the man who declared the
So, the man who declared the 'Carter Doctrine' that meant the US would use military force to protect it's oil interests in the Gulf is now your new hero. If Carter thinks the US is unpopular in the world substantially because of Blair then he really has gone senile. The declaration of the the Carter Doctrine which, like the Monroe Doctrine in the Western Hemisphere means they treat the rest of the world as if it was a service industry for US capitalism is hardly the fault of Blair.
On days when you cannot think of anything to say about Blair, leave the page blank rather than lessening your argument with this sort of drivel.
erm - what in polizeros post
erm - what in polizeros post suggests 'Carter is our new hero'...?
As for not posting when there is nothing to say about Blair - I didn't have any mildly amusing experiences at football matches this weekend to fill the front page...;)
What a pity, ringverse,
What a pity, ringverse, perhaps you should get out more, rather than reading and repeating Carter's shite in the Telegraph.
He didn't repeat anything...
He didn't repeat anything...
...but I do agree with Bob
...but I do agree with Bob on one thing - I need to get out more...
That is rather an
That is rather an unneccessarily snide remark, Bob.
Ringverse neither posted the Carter stuff, nor did polizeros make Carter into the new messiah. I thought you were better than that.
Forgive me, I'd obviously wrongly mistaken you for one of the good (well, better)guys.
My mistake.
By implication, I'd thought,
By implication, I'd thought, it was clear Carter's real target was Bush and the neocons. While certainly no paragon of virtue, Carter has been seriously outspoken lately, opposing the Lebanon war, and point-blank attacking the neocons.
Ex-Presidents are not supposed to comment on current events, so Carter is definitely breaking the mold here, another sign the neocon grip on things is slipping badly.
polizeros, I suspect the
polizeros, I suspect the only reason you were quoting the old duffer was because he was making some perverse comment about Blair, rather than a judgement on Bush.
anonymous, sorry to prick your bubble, I'm a real bastard actually. And ringverse... get out then!
Maybe you do believe that
Maybe you do believe that you are a real bastard but, actually, Bob, some of us think you're a paper tiger. Maybe a sort of pussycat really, fairly good at the personal vilification but not much else.
Perhaps you're right,
Perhaps you're right, Chucky, I'm really a pussycat.... as opposed to a big brave chuck person. S'life, Isuppose.
The USA doesn't need any
The USA doesn't need any help from anyone to retain its overseas unpopularity rating at an all time low. It's quite capable of achieving that on its own. However, Blair's actions and indefensable foreign policies have tarred him with the Bush brush. Of course if Blair stopped trying to play on a world stage where he is not really wanted, it would give Yates of the Yard an opportunity to flush out the truth on the peerage for money thing, which hasn't gone away, unlike the PM.
