A Change Of Policy

Tony's got a message for Iran and Syria that can be summed up in one word; Heeeeeeeeellllp! The 'Axis of Evil' becomes the 'Axis of not so bad once you get to know them'. And that was just the start. He showed how utterly bereft of ideas New Labour are. The speech showed how little he understands the mess he's got us into.

On Iraq he described the insurgents as terrorist extremists, not understanding that much of the insurgency is nationalist and that the competing factions are simply trying to grab power and oil. The al Qaeda is a minority group in Iraq and may well be in serious decline. But he laid out his strategy for Iraq

* First, we need a strong political compact in Iraq led by the Iraqi Government to bring all parties together, with clear commitments to non-sectarian government and to democracy;
* Second, we need to build Iraqi governing capability, especially in the disbursement of money for reconstruction and rebuilding of the economy;
* Third, we must plug any gaps in training, equipment and command and control in the Iraqi Army and help the new Interior Minister root out sectarianism in the police, which in turn will allow us, within the timeframe set down by General Casey, to transition to Iraqi control.

Given that Tony can't root out sectarianism in Northern Ireland, perhaps he can explain how he's going to do all this.

In other words, a major part of the answer to Iraq lies not in Iraq itself but outside it, in the whole of the region where the same forces are at work, where the roots of this global terrorism are to be found, where the extremism flourishes, with a propaganda that may be, indeed is, totally false; but is, nonetheless, attractive to much of the Arab street.

That is what I call a "whole Middle East" strategy.

Oooooh Tony's come over all holistic, but this 'strategy' is nonsense. Instead of going to war he could have looked for a regional solution. The war blew that opportunity away.

we should start with Israel/Palestine. That is the core. We should then make progress on Lebanon. We should unite all moderate Arab and Moslem voices behind a push for peace in those countries but also in Iraq. We should be standing up for, empowering, respecting those with a moderate and modern view of the faith of Islam everywhere.

In fact Tony's busy demonising British muslims and treating them as an 'enemy within' - one method guaranteed to alienate people. In addition the war has been al Qaeda's best recruiting advert. Then there's Lebanon. After his disastrous policy during the recent Israel/Lebanon conflict it is a bit rich for him to start bleating on about making progress.

Right, sit down, here comes a Blair classic.

What is happening in the Middle East today is not complex. It is simple.

At this point someone should have signalled for the men in white coats.

Want another classic bit of reality avoidance from Blair? Here we go

I have put Britain at the centre of Europe because I am proud that we are part of the largest political union and biggest economic market in the world.

At the centre? We've got almost as much influence as Latvia. The UK Presidency this year was the worst in living memory and Blair had to rely on Merkel to make a deal that cost the UK 20 Billion Pounds for nothing in return.

There's more but i'm running out of the will to live, but examining this speech shows just how empty New Labour is. Meanwhile Gordon Brown hovers in the background offering more of the same...

"Up yours, Tyrant!" would be

"Up yours, Tyrant!" would be a suitable response from Iran an Syria.

British intelligence officials believe that al-Qaida is determined to attack the UK with a nuclear weapon, it emerged yesterday. The announcement, from an officially organised Foreign Office counter-terrorism briefing for the media, was the latest in a series of bleak assessments by senior officials and ministers about the terrorist threat facing Britain.

UK officials have detected "an awful lot of chatter" on jihadi websites expressing the desire to acquire chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons.

I've just been listening to

I've just been listening to a song called "Nu-Labour just f**** off and die". It sums up how I feel about about them. Maybe it will be a hit in Iran.

Ah yes, the glorious Attila

Ah yes, the glorious Attila the Stockbroker - the lyrics are a quater of the way down and the song is called Guy Fawkes Table.

Do you think he's got time

Do you think he's got time to sort out all of this before he's off raising money for good causes like his own personal wealth? After all, this mess wasn't created overnight, took him almost ten years of being wilfully wrong on every aspect.

Even now that Bush and Blair

Even now that Bush and Blair have to eat political humble pie by asking for Iran and Syria to help them out they still continue dictating terms and sabre rattling.

These two men are simply inept at the most basic forms of diplomacy.

The Syrian and Iranians must be laughing their heads off at their new found status of regional powers, all thanks to the ignorance and criminal behaviour of those two unspeakably bad people.

Anyone that thinks Iran or Syria want to help the US/UK/Israeli axis needs to see a psychiatrist - they now have there economic interests elsewhere and there is nothing the US/UK can offer them, least of all through veiled threats.

Engaging with the "axis of

Engaging with the "axis of evil" signifies our weakened resolve, will demoralise our troops and give comfort to our enemies. It would send out entirely the wrong mess.... Oh sorry, that was last week.

I forced myself to read the

I forced myself to read the full text of Blair's speech:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,251-2452902,00.html

He really is the most deluded and dangerous fool - how anyone listening to this shite failed to throw at least a few bread rolls in his direction is beyond me.

I've just read it and it

I've just read it and it seems everything is everyone else's fault, seven invocations of 9/11 (must have forgotten about the london explosions), a couple of conflations of the 'war on terror' with the second world war, waves about some dead squaddies' corpses, repeats discredited misinfo against iran (who we , god help us, must deal with on our own terms).

however a gold star to anyone who can explain this line referring to the us and europe:

Both alliances are founded in history. Both are, however, now, at this point, utterly validated by the future.

Has he taken on russell grant as an advisor?

I'm getting concerned. This

I'm getting concerned. This New Labour cadre so needs a terrorist atrocity for this balls to work that it's too easy to imagine that they are going to just hand a nuclear weapon to some nutjob and ask them to blow it up to prove their point. Why should we believe they care about British lives any more than they care about Iraqi lives?

Anyone else think the spooks

Anyone else think the spooks storyline last night may be a bit close to the truth? (Not the flooding terrorists, rather the 'aftermath' report)?

I watched Panorama on Sunday

I watched Panorama on Sunday and thought maybe there was an underlying message to the whole programme.
It was stated that Libya/Ghadaffi were brought to heel with fear when Bush/Blair invaded Iraq because of Iraq's (non-existent) nuclear/WMD programme. My impression was at the time that Libya were offered all sorts of trade deals etc and sanctions were lifted in return for them dropping the nuclear/WMD programme.
However Iran and Syria didn't quake in their boots! Quite the reverse. It would seem that the bully boy tactics didn't work.

Question is was the BBC doing some PR work for Blair/Bush or were they making a point against their abortive policies?

Maybe someone with a better memory than me could put me straight on the facts regarding Libya's actions?

Or are Bush/Blair about to offer deals to Iran and Syria to shelve their nuclear ambitions with some concocted deal and this will also include the withdrawal of troops in Iraq is some devious way?

I have to agree with Anon @

I have to agree with Anon @ 12:16 - the 'Aftermath' report was scarily all too believable. Just the kind of deranged dribble that might spew from the pens of Rumsfeld, Cheyney, Wolfowitz and any number of No.10 NuLabor policy wonks.

Since the US mid-term

Since the US mid-term elections, and the sacking of Rummy, there has been a huge sigh of relief from much of UK political elite:- "Thank God that Rumsfeld has gone" "It was all Rummy's fault" etc etc. The Observer this week was full of it. If you or I had said this kind of thing a few weeks ago we would have been condemned for being anti-American. Of course, none of this answers the question: why didn't our political elite understand this guy (and his mates, and his beliefs) about 5 years ago? What happens the next time the US asks the UK to get involved in an illegal and risky war? Is the UK obliged (for some reason that we haven't beem told) to get involved in whatever military adventure the US dreams up?

Ha bloody ha, Bush and Bliar

Ha bloody ha, Bush and Bliar asking Iran and Syria to help sort out the mess that is Iraq. Well you fucking broke it so you can fucking fix it. What brass necks these shameless bastards have!! Oh and the UN should take a role too, well excuse me.Didn't some arrogant bastard say "the UN is an irrelevance"?
How it hurts when some of your own get theirs? We ain't seen nothing yet.
The whole world saw the utter lack of compassion and human decency of Bush ans Bliar when they encouraged the murderous Israhelli regime to carry out their mass murder and devastation of civilian infrastructure in Lebanon.

Agrre with all you say other

Agrre with all you say other than the bit about humble pie. Neither of these ultra egotists know the term humility so I say let them eat shit.

Blair is a dangerous

Blair is a dangerous individual.Insane.He should be removed to a secure institution and large elecrical currents should be applied to his frontal lobe.
He is a hopless case.

How anyone can take anything the useless fucker says seriously is beyond me.

The knives are out for the

The knives are out for the neocons, and Blair's had it. America's foreign policy establishment has finally grown tired of their costly fanatacism. Watch the erstwhile supporters of the war cover their tracks, rewriting history as they go. All of them except Blair that is, because he can't. He's hitched himself to the most unpopular President in US history, and the biggest foreign policy disaster in the post WWII period.

He's hitched up to the Bush titanic, and down he goes with the sticken president.

Bush titanic...

Bush titanic... .

Totally agree with Cassandra's sentiments but we cannot allow the war criminal to just "sink", and skulk away to live off his payoffs from the bush crime gang.

He MUST be brought to justice for his war crimes and his treason!

He MUST be made a public example to all political parasites. His name must live with Hitler, Stalin, PolPot, Amin and Bush in infamy as an icon of wickedness and evil.

The deluded fool at no. 10

The deluded fool at no. 10 stalls his leave in the hope of leaving his legacy untarnished, and of course to keep Brown out as long as possible in the vain hope some new heir will arise.

The great thing about TB is that he is so divorced from reality that the longer he stays there the more his legacy is revealed for what it is - a disaster for the UK.

Let us not fret about the liar but just enjoy watching the slow political death of the man and his legacy, the coming months will be a veritable schadenfreude fest for all hater of Bliar.

"This New Labour cadre so

"This New Labour cadre so needs a terrorist atrocity for this balls to work that it's too easy to imagine that they are going to just hand a nuclear weapon to some nutjob and ask them to blow it up to prove their point"

Exactly what happened to the World Trade Centre. The bigger the crime, the easier it is to get away with it...

OK, I do know it wasn't

OK, I do know it wasn't nuclear...

"large elecrical currents

"large elecrical currents should be applied to his frontal lobe"

That's a new name for it! :-)

I have just read the speech

I have just read the speech in full - and it was a struggle. He chose a curious way of addressing the former Lord Mayor as "my late Lord Mayor...". Technically correct, but rather suggesting that the poor old bugger was dead.

However, that is not my main point. My reaction to his words was that, had I heard them in person, I would have had to either walk out or be violently and ostentatiously sick - preferably all over him.

Blair's recent video chat

Blair's recent video chat with the Iraq Study Group includes this gem: "The Prime Minister told the ISG that what he believed was needed was a plan for Iraq"

So, what happened to the old one? Or has he only just realised...

It would be funny if it weren't so bloody tragic.
