Veiled against the Sun - UPDATED
All over everywhere this morning:
Wanted man may have fled in veil
WPC killer fled UK in a veil
Beshenivsky suspect 'fled Britain in a veil'
etc., etc.
Now, there are things to check against our indicators and warnings board here:
1) Leak from police/intelligence - check
2) To a tabloid - check
3) To a Murdoch tabloid - check
4) Whipping up frenzy about asylum seekers (the suspect had been in the UK since 1993 and grew up here, so that itself is debatable) - check
5) Whipping up a frenzy about Muslims and how they look funny - check
That's five out of five, which is generally indicates a bogus story, so I'm not buying that one, just yet. Neither is the Flying Rodent for that matter. What it sounds like is that if this chap genuinely fled abroad, despite all ports looking for him, then there was a failure somewhere, which is being blamed on the veil.
Remember, this is a few months after 21/7, where one of the 'bombing' suspects got out on the Eurostar. Much easier to blame veils really.
Anyway, luckily there are intelligent, funny things in newspapers still, so in a spirit of wanting our readers to laugh instead of foam at the mouth as usual, here's the latest Beau Bo D'or and Mark Steel on our wonderful Foreign Secretary.
Update - by quarsan
The Sun continues to report this unsourced allegation as fact and has started a campaign for removing the veil. The problem is not the veil, or with any unwillingness amongst muslim women to show their faces in a private setting, but with the attitude of security officials.
There are three stages to airport security where ID should be checked:
1, Check in
2, Entering the departure area
3, Boarding gate
If ID is not being checked then this is not a cultural problem regarding the veil, but a security problem regarding basic steps not being taken.
The case of the murder of
The case of the murder of WPC Sharon Beshenivsky seems fishy to me.
Mustaf Jamma has been on the run from Police for nearly a year now from the West Yorkshire Police (assisted by the Met police also) who said they would stop at nothing to catch the WPC killers.
Mustaf Jamma is the person referred to in this House of Commons debate on Deportation and Removals (3/04/06):
This morning's papers are full of the story of the suspect in the tragic murder of WPC Sharon Beshenivsky. I do not expect the Home Secretary to comment on that case at all, and I will be very careful. As I understand it, the suspect was given indefinite leave to remain in 2000. In the subsequent five years he was convicted of three offences and sentenced to three separate prison terms. Yet in March 2005 the Home Office decided not to deport him to Somalia, even though a year earlier, the Home Office's operational guidance note on Somalia said:
"there is no longer any policy that precludes the return to any region of Somalia".
So the story should be focussed on the incompetence of the Home Office, rather than a slur on Muslim dress (veils).
Also, if you read reports of the trial (yet again, press restrictions were put in place), you will find that the mastermind of the Robbery was (Uncle)Piran Ditta Khan (originally we are told from Aberdeen), who, like Mustaf Jamma, is still 'on the run'.
Piran Ditta Khan (try to find some news info on him....) masterminded the scheme that men from Forest Gate & Kentish Town, London, Small Heath, Birmingham & 1 other (of no fixed abode), drove up to Bradford to rob a Travel Agency. Oh, & the gang used a distinctive a silver Toyota Rav 4 (Reg WP05 YTT) hired under duress from a Somalian gang at Heathrow Airport to travel first to a brothel & then to be caught on (working) CCTV cameras in Bradford outside the Universal Express travel Agency in Morley Street, a minute's walk from Bradford's main police station. (& the car hirer also went to the police to report the strange circumstances).
Other characters to google include paid witness Francois Baron.
Mark Steel says it all.
Mark Steel says it all. Brillant bit of work.
I heard this on Radio 4 in
I heard this on Radio 4 in the morning, where they were calling it "one of the theories the police are considering," which sounded like the police had no evidence it had actually happened.
By evening I had seen it in screaming black headlines on the cover of the Daily Express, reported as a fact. With helpful photoshop of what a black man looks like in a burqa.
re Mark Steel - isn't that
re Mark Steel - isn't that why she's called the FOREIGN Seceretary
It’s amazing how a bigoted
It’s amazing how a bigoted Muslim hater manages to have some dirty little theory yet again get inflated to Mass media fact. This latest bollocks has shades of a number of other BS stories. One that sprang to mind is the very British “catastrophic and catalyzing event like a new Pearl Harbour†which is of course is the killing of a WPC, and the past event which this one draws upon is WPC Fletcher who was politically murdered in 1984 by a shot fired not from the Libian embassy, but from 3 doors down at from 8 St. James' Square by operatives under the cover of the Hughes Corporation. Do you remember the bizarre way this killing was rolled out in the media?.
The other past event which this story draws upon is the filthy attempt to deny Muslim women the freedom to give themselves privacy and anonymity by wearing ‘the veil’. This revival is a second assault (the first having died spectacularly) on this form of privacy was spearheaded in the UK by criminal professional liars like Jack ‘we do not render people for torture’ Straw. And of course, the mass media is showing its hateful face by Ann Coulter like, failing to fact check and serve unquestingly the agenda of hate lies and fear. Sadly though Brits continue to fund these trashy organization by purchasing their slippery loo roll and actually falling for the crapola it contains..
It might be just as well to
It might be just as well to remember the hunt for the 21/7 flour power "bombers".
The Bank of England posted on their website very extensive details of these guys of whom the most interesting was
OSMAN, Hussein (prosecuted as Hamdi Isaac in Italy)
DOB: 23/07/1978
a.k.a:
(1) ADDUS, Hamdi, Issac
(2) ADUS, Hamdi, Issac
(3) OSMAN, Hussain
(4) OSMAN, Hussein, Ahmed
(5) OSMAN, Hussen, Ahmed
Nationality: (1) Eritrean (2) Somalian
National Identification no: National Insurance no PW 83 41 02 C [UK]
Address:
(1) 21 Scotia Road, London, United Kingdom, SW2 2UF
(2) 31 Helix Road, London, United Kingdom, SW2 2JR
(3) 40 Blair House, Stockwell Gardens Estate, London, United Kingdom, SW9 9AB
(4) Flat 2, 154 Mitcham Lane, London, United Kingdom, SW16 6NS
.. and of course 21, Scotia Road, was the address at which de Menezes lived and was under close surveillance - except when going for a leak . However as we know OSMAN, Hussein AKA Hamdi Isaac had managed to hop onto a Euro Express (sans veil presumably) uisng one of his various passports - and was subsequently tracked across Europe by his mobile phone calls to his brother in Rome.
Of course if he had been apprehended @ Waterloo... although fanciful to imagine ... de Menezes might be alive today.
This apparent breach of controls was mentioned ....
"There is an investigation under way to discover how the Somali-born man who tried to blow up a train at Shepherds Bush managed to slip out of the UK when his photograph was at every port and airport."
Times July 30, 2005 Captured - all five 21/7 bomb suspects
Which does not ever seem to have resulted in a result - or one conveyed by an anxious press to an anxious public.
Sir Ian Blair of that Ilk did say at the time (but I cannot find the reference)that they were on the trail of these bombers and that we should not worry they had not escaped the country - just as Mr Isaas / Hussein was settling down on the Eurostar.
Mind you if the photo was the one that you can access at the Wikipedia entry on Osman Hussein , allegedly of Hussein at Westbourne tube it is highly unlikely anyone would recognise him.
Here we fuckin go
Here we fuckin go again
Merry Christmas!
Blair issues terror plot warning
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair claims the UK is facing an unparalleled and growing threat of a terrorist attack.
However, he said there was "no specific intelligence" about an imminent attack but the threat was "ever present".
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/6202851.stm
what a bunch of wankers.
Civilians are facing a "far
Civilians are facing a "far graver" threat now than they did in the Second World War, the Metropolitan Police chief has said.
Commissioner Sir Ian Blair told Today it would take intelligence services years to penetrate al-Qaeda and its operatives.
no intelligence so how the fuck does this asshole come away with this shit.
Oh yeah right, all these
Oh yeah right, all these hyperventilating blood-curdling panic alerts are precursor for more legislation to curtail our freedoms... or a justification for nuking Iran, or some such...
So what's Fucking Blair committed to this time, when he was away on his little peace (war) making mission????
The blokes a fucking menace......
Of course he's a menace, but
Of course he's a menace, but he's a menace who someone voted for (bet not too many will hold their hands up to that one now) and is supported by an army of self-agrandising yes men (and women). And we can't change it.
Maybe what we need is some democracy? Perhaps the Iraq or Afghanistan model should be looked at again.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha aaaah Quote: "We have learnt a lot from Forest Gate and you saw that in the way we handled the airline plot."
Yeah more innocent lives ruined!
Oh yeah: Defending the Forest Gate raid, which cost police £2m. Cost the police eh!
And:
Sir Ian said: "I'd say this: I, for my own part, I am quite confident that I will not face any kind of misconduct... in relation to Stockwell." and: When questioned about his confidence, he added: "I'll just say that I'm confident, shall we leave it at that?"
Well he seems very confident about it all.. Or does he know something we don't?
Is it pantomime season or something????
If it ain't one lot spewing crap its another lot spewing even more crap....
Un-fucking believable...
WTF! are these people on?
Yeah, voted in by a 5th of
Yeah, voted in by a 5th of the electorate! As for the people that did vote for him... well we all make mistakes, don't we?
Still, that is one mistake I cannot put my hand up to ;)
Democracy! what's that then?
Its called a Dictatorship or
Its called a Dictatorship or police state when the law is above the law and accountable to noone but themselves. It´s a fuckin disgrace that this arse wipe Blair the police man and Bliar the politician are still in job never mind a prison.
They are all on a power ego trip. They have gained a lot of confidence since Sept11th.They now know they can get away with it.
We need some kind of
We need some kind of People's Referendum Act, whereby a national approval referendum on the government of the day's performance is held once a year and if the Gov's approval drops below, say, 35/40% of the total electorate then a General Election is automatically triggered. Now that would serve to sharpen the governing party's focus.
Captain Swing: I agree with
Captain Swing: I agree with what you say, but the vast majority of peeps simply don't care, and there is still quite a high percentage that still think he is doing a good job.
I suspect the only way change will come about is through force, I mean these people aren't going to give up their coveted positions lightly are they.
The police and the military are another manifestation of the state, and they wont hesitate in using them on their own citizens if they feel radically threatened...
The establishment already use violence or threats of violence to stifle free speech, they are continually ramping up on new laws to criminalise and penalise its citizens and increase enforcement through "its" local "authorities".
Nor should they be underestimated, not for 1 second, their policies may seem irrational to a sane mind, but I believe they have an agenda that is probably going more-or-less to plan...
People died for the freedoms that this lot are trashing. Must it happen again, is that the way it has to be?
Lifting the veil at a
Lifting the veil at a security check only serves to confirm whether the person is male or female if the passport is issued by a Muslim state. Such passports do not carry any photograph if the woman is veiled.
David. Maybe it depends on
David.
Maybe it depends on which country issues the passport becasue I've seen the passport of a Muslim woman from a Muslim country and she isn't veiled. I cannot be sure but I was under the impression that for passport purposes they are not allowed to wear a weil, but can wear a hijab (headscraf covering only the hair and secured under the chin by a broach or pin etc.) so that their face is shown.
I am sure they must show their face as there isn't a Muslim law (that I know of) that says women have to cover the face, so the passport issuing state would surely not allow face covering veils to be worn
Captain Swing. I like your
Captain Swing.
I like your suggestion. Venezuela has a similar law. I find it bemusing that Venezuela has more of a democracy than us. It also has a better leader (by miles!) than us and doesn't embark upon global conquests that kill millions of ordinary innocent people.
Currently, the UK stinks. It truly does, but Brits love of their homeland and deep hope that they do indeed live in one of the best societies around, prevents them form realising the magnitude of the mire were in. Spooks aside, most of the folks who come here seem to realise this and contribute to the daily polyphonic bitch slapping. And why not. I also come here for a bit of a slap.
BUT, the thing that really disappoints me about Blairwatch, is that it is frankly pathetic in proposing a solution!
Bitch slap 4, solution 0.
I proposed on Blairwatch what I thought was a superb (naturally enough) and beautifully simple way to check the power of an MP giving direct power to people at the election and once the MP had been elected. It received no discussion whatsoever. Guess it didn't slap that bitch hard enough.
Parliamentary reform must NOT reside in the hands of the politicians or of people attached to these dirty crooks and crims infesting Westminster, who skulk through the corridors of power under the fasci of the party (both the political and the 'drugs sex and rock n' roll' type which as we have seen amply over the years is a significant behavioural trait!) system. They simply cannot be trusted (again as we have seem throughout the ages) to put into place reforms that give UTTER accountability, which is what I understand to be cornerstone of democracy.
So, official Parliamentary ‘reform’ groups should be dismissed (unless of course by some freak chance they do actually let slip a proposal or two that is actually to our empowerment, but I’m still waiting for the moon to change colour)
Therefore it boils down to independent 'think tanks' (and not these rotten government 'stink tanks') open to all individuals (the internet being the great medium) to develop reform and to force it on these murderous crooks and crims, to actually operate the way WE want and see fit.
Blairwatch team...: Any change of providing some assistance in this?
Tonys Akiller, I don't think
Tonys Akiller,
I don't think your criticisms are entirely fair. We have supported positive developments in politics when we have seen them. See here. This might also answer your query as to what we think about electoral reform.
Don't despair. After all,
Don't despair. After all, 'tis the seaon of goodwill to all men except muslims. Seriously though the Blair Twins are a fucking curse on the people of this country and if there were to be an attack of some kind I fervently hope those two get theirs.
Anon @ 5:36 Admittedly it
Anon @ 5:36
Admittedly it was some years ago, but I sat next to a woman in full rig on a flight from the Gulf to London and her passport had no photograph. The space for the photo was stamped "in purdah" or something similar. Of course, things may have changed.
From a religious fundamentalist PoV, having a photograph of a woman in her passport would defeat the object of veiling because her image would be seen by males not related to her.
The problem of women not
The problem of women not wanting to show themselves (physically or on a passport photo) could easily be solved by having a female officer see if the photo and the person under the veil match.
Its weird that there wasn't a photo in the passport, because it could have been anyone’s passport! Perhaps it was Ali Mohammad or Aswat?
Anyway, I have to go now, but I'll check the link you provided about Blairwatch's 'reform' element after the crimbo hols - and a) thanks for posting it b) sorry if my disappointment is unfounded.
Have a good holiday :)

My wife is from Pakistan and
My wife is from Pakistan and she is not veiled on her passport photo. Even in Saudi they have facial checks on women entering and leaving the country, they just get a female to perform them.
George Orwell Was Right: Spy
George Orwell Was Right: Spy Cameras See Britons' Every Move
By Nick Allen
Dec. 22 (Bloomberg) -- It's Saturday night in Middlesbrough, England, and drunken university students are celebrating the start of the school year, known as Freshers' Week.
One picks up a traffic cone and runs down the street. Suddenly, a disembodied voice booms out from above:
``You in the black jacket! Yes, you! Put it back!'' The confused student obeys as his friends look bewildered.
``People are shocked when they hear the cameras talk, but when they see everyone else looking at them, they feel a twinge of conscience and comply,'' said Mike Clark, a spokesman for Middlesbrough Council who recounted the incident. The city has placed speakers in its cameras, allowing operators to chastise miscreants who drop coffee cups, ride bicycles too fast or fight outside bars.
Almost 70 years after George Orwell created the all-seeing dictator Big Brother in the novel ``1984,'' Britons are being watched as never before. About 4.2 million spy cameras film each citizen 300 times a day, and police have built the world's largest DNA database. Prime Minister Tony Blair said all Britons should carry biometric identification cards to help fight the war on terror.
``Nowhere else in the free world is this happening,'' said Helena Kennedy, a human rights lawyer who also is a member of the House of Lords, the upper house of Parliament. ``The American public would find such inroads into civil liberties wholly unacceptable.''
During the past decade, the government has spent 500 million pounds ($1 billion) on spy cameras and now has one for every 14 citizens, according to a September report prepared for Information Commissioner Richard Thomas by the Surveillance Studies Network, a panel of U.K. academics.
Who's In Charge?
At a single road junction in the London borough of Hammersmith, there are 29 cameras run by police, government, private companies and transport agencies. Police officers are even trying out video cameras mounted on their heads.
``We've got to stand back and see where technology is taking us,'' said Thomas, whose job is to protect people's privacy. ``Humans must dictate our future, not machines.''
Blair said citizens have to sacrifice some freedoms to fight terrorism, illegal immigration and identity fraud.
``We have a modern world that we are living in, with new and different types of crime,'' Blair said Nov. 6 at a press conference in London. ``If we don't use technology in order to combat it, then we won't be fighting crime effectively.''
Constant Monitoring
In the bowels of New Scotland Yard, the headquarters of the London police force, a windowless room contains a giant bank of TV screens where the city is monitored around the clock. At the touch of a button, officers can focus on any neighborhood and zoom in on people's faces.
Police hunting the killer of five prostitutes in Suffolk were able to gather 10,000 hours of footage from in and around Ipswich.
By 2016, there will be cameras using facial recognition technology embedded in lampposts, according to the Surveillance Studies report. Unmanned spy planes will monitor the movements of citizens, while criminals and the elderly will be implanted with microchips to track their movements, the report says.
``The level of surveillance in this country should shock people,'' said David Murakami Wood, a lecturer at the University of Newcastle who headed the study. ``It is infiltrating everything we do.''
Wood is also concerned about the U.K.'s growing DNA database. The files contain the genetic codes of more than 3.8 million people, or 5.2 percent of the population. By comparison, the U.S. has the DNA records of 0.5 percent of its residents.
DNA matches helped solve 45,000 crimes in the U.K. last year, including 422 murders, 645 rapes and 9,000 burglaries, according to the Home Office. But the database isn't foolproof.
Burglar Who Wasn't
Police who knocked on Raymond Easton's door in Swindon, England, in 1999 were certain he had committed burglary at a house 200 miles (300 kilometers) away. DNA found at the scene was a 37 million-to-1 match with Easton's sample, which had been taken three years earlier.
Easton, a former construction worker, had Parkinson's disease and could barely dress himself. He was still charged. Further tests proved he had never been to Bolton, where the burglary occurred, according to the Greater Manchester police.
``Britain's DNA database is spiraling out of control,'' said Helen Wallace, deputy director of GeneWatch U.K., which campaigns for responsible use of genetic science. ``It could allow an unprecedented level of government surveillance.''
Other government plans include loading the confidential medical records of 50 million patients in the state-run health system onto a central database without their consent.
Most controversial of all are Blair's biometric ID cards linked to a national register holding every citizen's fingerprints, iris or face scan. Starting in 2010, anyone renewing or applying for a passport will have to get one.
``Desperate for some sort of legacy, the prime minister has nothing to offer but Blair's Big Brother Britain,'' said Phil Booth, national coordinator of the anti-ID card group NO2ID.
What do you suppose they'll
What do you suppose they'll do with people like me?
I quite simply will not submit to this. They can forcibly take, I suppose, everything except the iris scan. That is in my gift, and I'm not going to give.
They going to fine me? Won't pay.
Probation? Wont attend.
Community service? Wont do it.
Take my goods to pay the fine? If you bundled up everything I possess and sold it, you might, on a good day, get £150. And that would be a once-only.
Tag me - will cut it off in front of them.
Put a chip in me? Will cut it out (seriously - bit of pain's no problem, and blood doesn't trouble me.
Jail me? Yes, I suppose they could do that. They have to understand though, that I will not sign their documents; will not utter one word to ANYONE connected to them; will not wear their clothes; will not eat their food; will not drink their liquids. Neither will I offer them violence. I will not explain to anyone what I'm doing or why I'm doing it. I will not argue, just refuse.
THEY have a problem, not me. Because I couldn't care two fucks about living if it has to be on their terms. I suspect I wont be the only one.
