How To Waste Money

It has been announced that, in 2006 the size of the army has shrunk as almost 14,500 left the service.

A massive recruitment campaign has only recruited 12,700 new recruits.

89 million pounds was spent on recruiting, so let's do some sums:

89,000,000 divided by 12,700 = 7007.85

So for each squaddie who signs up, H.M. Govt splashes out over 7,000 quid!

Current daily pay for a new entrant is 33.32 pounds.

7007.85 divided by 33.32 = 210.31 days pay

This is the perfect

This is the perfect explaination of this government instead of paying the troops the money they deserve they throw it at the advertising firms their friends own who then donate to labour and then get a peerage.

Not surprising really. It

Not surprising really.
It all boils down to a nasty little government that, since coming to power, has operated in this mode. It's a government that relies wholly on lies, confusion and intense media control to put forward fake insubstantial messages to the masses in the hope that it is doing the 'right' thing because let's face it, they are all 'pretty straight' sorts of guys aren't they.
Rather than actually deal with the problems that are facing us as a nation, all they feel they need to do is throw up a catchy strap-line to fix the issues. I think that observing the results of their years of neglect, inappropriate use, and over-extension of the Armed forces is leading to the only possible conclusion there could be, a depletion of our physical defense when it is most needed due wholly to their current insane policies. They have broken our Army, our economy, our international standing, our sense of identity, and our willingness to put our lives on the line for all of it.
At some stage someone needs to remind the powers that be that £89 million pounds can't hold a rifle. A colourful catchy strap-line can't defend a nation.

It's worse even than the

It's worse even than the numbers show.

The people lost are seasoned servicemen. The people recruited are not. On average, not only is quantity reducing, so is quality.

When I was a serviceman, I wanted to sign on for a pensionable term, but signing for a pensionable term for my year of discharge was only permitted for those who stayed below the rank of sergeant. Hardly a career option.

So, after seasoning me for eight years, they lost me. I went into private contracts instead.

It's been going on for a long time. Somebody ought to dump the accountants and business consultants.

Well given that Harry is now

Well given that Harry is now going to be deployed inBasra I am sure he will boost recruitment numbers exponentally.

God forbid you pay squaddies

God forbid you pay squaddies enough money that they might educate themselves, discover what HM Govt has planned for them and get the hell out. Even my gung-ho relatives are feeling duped, one Iraq tour was enough.

Yes Rick the whole nation

Yes Rick the whole nation has been duped, and a direct result is Iraq destroying itself from the inside out. It is a shame that our government did not see this coming, it was obvious and historically we could have drawn reference from the same things that happened in Bosnia. It does hearten me that you comment on your families change in position. I would like to offer to them and yourself the significant hope that they are not the only ones. Out of a large part of the people I know, many of whom where significantly supportive of the action carried out in Iraq, I know of not one who have not now seen the sheer murderous folly of our pm and his lies. We are not alone, spread the word, certainly get your friends that may still be serving (taking an assumption here) to tell their families of the truth out there. Perhaps then we can get this fool we have put rightly into the doc for his lies in time.
