Happy Birthday To The Greatest
I was brought up by good, open minded and devout Christians. When I was a very young boy I saw Muhammad Ali being interviewed on television by Michael Parkinson, you tube videos here, and in the middle of it I heard him say something that shook the world from under me.
Talking about Christianity and it's imagery, he asked "Why don't I see black angels?".
I sat bolt upright and got up and walked into the kitchen and asked my parents the same question as I had never seen one either. Now my parents were good people and who viewed everyone, no matter what colour of skin or anything else as being one of God's children and, as my mother explained, "God doesn't have favourites, he loves all his children equally".
That was my introduction to Muhammad Ali.
What is depressing is that, 35 years later, I still haven't seen a black angel.
