It's increasingly pissing me off that Jewish opinion in the UK and US is being efficiently coralled by PR (yes, GIYUS, I'm talking to you - on their RSS feed this morning, 8 stories, 6 have Iran in the title) into narrow support for the Israeli extreme right and their neo-con buddies in the UK and US. With that background, it's nice to see the launch of Independent Jewish Voices yesterday.
Although it's a bit early to say anything, the mere existence of an alternative viewpoint to extremism is welcome, as one often feels that when advocating the reasonable position that peace in the Middle East depends on Israel changing its policies, one is asking for a bunch of lunatics to call you an anti-semite. As a matrilinear descendant of a German Jewish refugee who came to Britain in the late 1930s, is rather annoying to say the least. At least I can now point to a long list, many of whom one wouldn't obviously see as Jewish (that's properly integrated multiculturalism, by the way), who agree.
I'm going to sign, anyway, as soon as I can raise the cash (what, a poor Jew? I must have forgotten to control the world's media, or something).

There's not much hope of a balance of opinion. I have been emailing the BBC news every time they state 'tens of thousands of Iraqi casualties' when every person must know that the figure is in fact hundreds of thousands - if not almost a million by now.
It is simply a fact in the UK now that we are part of a fascist plot that aims to oppress all freedom in the Middle East, alienate the moslems and create chaos and anarchy. All this to keep China and India away from energy reserves and increase Israeli (therefore US) domination over its neighbours. Only a fool cannot see this.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert asked British Foreign Minister Margaret Becket on Wednesday to enact a law preventing the arrest of Israel Defense Forces officers in British territory, during their meeting in Jerusalem.
According to a political source in Jerusalem, British authorities promised Israel roughly a year and a half ago that the country would enact a law similar to a Belgian law, passed in the wake of the Belgian warrant issued for the arrest of then-prime minister Ariel Sharon.
The Belgian law transferred the authority to issue arrest warrants for foreign citizens on accusations of war crimes from the courts to the government.
Beckett promised the prime minister that she would take care of the issue.
