Inventing and Inciting Hatred

Here's the story: Yesterday a woman visited a sauna wearing hijab, then went for a quick cooling off in the pool. 10 minutes in the sauna, another ten in the pool, then she changed into a dry hijab and went home.
Nothing newsworthy. Unless you're the Sun who fill their non-story with as many loaded phrases as possible and a possibly dubious 'spokesman', who conveniently echoes the Murdoch line. The centre has now banned hijab's.
Strange. In the old days we
Strange. In the old days we banned clothes for immorality - now we ban them for morality.
In many swimming pools in
In many swimming pools in Europe, you are not allowed in the pool without a hat to cover your hair.
If British chlorine can cope with head lice, surely it can wash away Islam?
A 'hijab' is a headscarf. Now I read the story, it appears the woman was wearing a chador. Which shows how ignorant the Sun is.
Think we should get Janet and Shilpa to comment on this one?
why on earth has the centre
why on earth has the centre now banned whatever the woman was wearing - because of the publicity in the Sun?
Actually, whatever the reason, this is one of those cases where the centre in question would seem to merit an immediate economic boycott by members of the public, whether Muslim or not - nothing like financial pain for bringing dicks like that back to their senses.
whats more interesting from
whats more interesting from this point of view, and im sure some people here will HATE me for saying this is where i live. its a village in lincolnshire, we have a swimming pool here sort of, or rather the school does. its rarely open to the public though restricted mostly to school use. one exception however is for muslims where they have half a day a week where muslim women only can come here and use it. good if youre a muslim woman living in the whitest place in the country (98.7% white in this district) but not so good if you're anyone else.
i find it amusing the rest of us have to drive into lincoln to go swimming whilst local muslims, of which in this village of almost 4000 people there are actually none according to the local census, are able to use our facilities this way. heh. i wouldnt mind if everyone else could use it too but the way things are now the situation is insane.
sometimes minorities get attacked as wth this sun article needlessly, and other times they really do ban everyone except those in a hijab! i wonder what the sun would make of the situation here? we should be encouraging mixed bathing like this rather to avoid the situation we have here rather than the sun ranting and raving about people who do choose to wear a hijab to do what they want with others. id love to be able to go to my local swimming pool and see what the sun is complaining about.

If you are pissed off at a few dozen of members of the Muslim community using the pool, why don't you ask the school for time for "members" of your own community?
You must know members of the school governing board or actual parents that send their kids there?
Anonymous, I would guess
Anonymous, I would guess that the Muslim women in question pay to book the facilities. If your friends are so outraged, why don't you show the centre the colour of your money?
I know its slightly
I know its slightly off-topic but there's a Blair quote on the sun website about trident renewal: "I believe it is important that we recognise that although it is impossible to predict the future, the one thing ... that is certain, is the unpredictability of it."
A very stupid remark for a myriad of reasons..........
Nearly as stupid-a-comment
Nearly as stupid-a-comment as this from "fly87" about the non swimming pool incident : "if my grandfather was around today and was able to see what the UK had become he would be disgusted". ...
Perhaps its our Tone in disguise?

in response to cloned poster -
its not the school, its the council. the council run the pool out of school hours. the council have X amount given to them to spend on community projects specifically for muslims and this is one of the things they spend it on. there are 1300 non whites in the entire council district... and most of them own the chinese takeaway each village has (this isnt an exagerration, we have a couple of chinese takeaways per medium sized village and NO other ethnic restaurants). there are 160 muslims in the entire council district btw out of 101,000, we have more buddhists living here.
assuming half those are female then we have 80 in total, take away the old and those who arent teenagers and youre left with perhaps 50 which hardly justifies what the council are funding - that is renting out the swimming pool from the school and then letting those 50 people go there and use it for nothing whilst its not even open to anyone else outside school hours. this also assumes they are all moral prudes, my partner as it happens is muslim and has no problem with walking around in a bikini infront of anyone.
still waiting though for the council to provide special things for buddhists. anyway the moral of the story before i got onto this was the sun is wrong, we need proper mixed facilities. what they are encouraging will lead to a situation like we have where i live nationwide where facilities will be "muslim only" for a portion of their time. the whole idea of racial or religious separation rather than mixing is something taken right out of the deep south of america - separate but equal, those in favour called it, which is wrong on so many levels.
Why must we constantly worry
Why must we constantly worry about offending minority groups such as Muslims.
This is a DEMOCRACY, where the needs and values of the MAJORITY are upheld.
We could say of those that
We could say of those that enforce antidiscrimination laws are discriminating against those that would discriminate and ipso facto should be a target of their own laws; which would be utterly, utterly stupid but essentially true.
So is it fair for a minority to discriminate against the majority as it does in our so called democracy with it's 22% majority rule?!? I don't flippin think so!
Anyway, anonymous's pool should be available for fair use for all to use, or not at all, especially as it is funded with public money.
But hey, since when has life been fair.
Buddhist links.
Hard to comment on any Sun
Hard to comment on any Sun story, because you don't know what has been made up, if not all of it. If the facts as presented were true, though, the issue is one of hygiene. If this lady showered between the sauna and the pool, and rinsed-out her clothes, then fine. Otherwise, sweating into outdoor clothes then getting into a swimming pool still wearing those clothes is frankly disgusting. Or is muslim sweat less disgusting than kaffir sweat?
"Otherwise, sweating into
"Otherwise, sweating into outdoor clothes then getting into a swimming pool still wearing those clothes is frankly disgusting."
What is disgusting is middle aged men with huge brewer's paunches and simian body hair who squeeze themselves into ball-crunching speedos and sit in the sauna splattering everyone with sweat while farting profusely. It is these people who should be forced to wear hajibs, preferably gas-tight ones.
NoJags Neil - if you had had
NoJags Neil - if you had had any education at all you would know that only horses sweat. Men perspire and women simply glow!
Just for lifeastubling block
Just for lifeastubling block knows the Labour public vote was 33%, which translated to and 85% share of the seats in the house of commons - do you have any other voting systems by which we can decide the winner.
Would you prefer that a different party who got even less votes should bein power? - the inescapable fact is that under the current system Labour won the most votes - more than anyone else.
I never thought I (a card carrying Conservative) would end up defending the new Labour movement which, under the leadership of Blair killed socialism in Britain, possibly forever.
I guess there is no new
I guess there is no new content cos the sun is shining - hey, there's still shit happening in the world blairwatch...???
Possibly something along
Possibly something along these lines might actually restore some hope and accountability in politics.
We live in a democracy; it is about representing the people’s wishes, not getting into power by being the least unsavoury option. Politicians are elected under the “Representation of the People Act”, a point that seems lost on some of them. We invade other countries to give them democracy. How ironic that we can’t have it in our local councils. At elections candidates are put forward by their parties to represent them but that focus of representation changes the very second they are elected. Their loyalty to their party takes second place to the wishes of the people in their ward, morally and legally. Politicians are elected to office to represent the people, not the party.
Does politics have to be synonymous with corruption and the self-serving interests of an elite few as it presently is?
Why not listen to the poor
Why not listen to the poor woman's side of the story?
