Tonight's Belgian News
Posted March 21st, 2007 by quarsan
About 700 Belgian couples have symbolically wed in a Flemish town where three couples had refused to let a black official marry them.
Deputy Mayor Wouter Van Bellingen was the first black councillor elected in St-Niklaas in northern Belgium.
In response to the snub, Mr Van Bellingen decided to organise a mass wedding as an anti-racism protest.
It is just unbelievable that people won't be wed in Belgium, the heart of the EU because of the skin colour of the registrar, but these sort of vermin are all over Europe.

I felt it was worth
I felt it was worth mentioning how good this story made me feel when I caught the news this evening. I just wanted to say to everyone who participated in this affirmation of shared humanity... Well done - many people across the globe are very proud of you.
This story has nothing to do
This story has nothing to do with VB. It's very dishonest and poor journalism to imply that it is.
Agree with the comment above
Agree with the comment above - dishonest to link this story to the Vlaams Belaang.
Incidentally: vote-wise, the Vlaams Belaang is the single biggest political party in Belgium, and is growing.
Thought this was BLAIRwatch?
Too right, CSHM. The
Too right, CSHM.
The Australians don't appear to have a problem calling their PM a war criminal:
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2007/03/365821.html
so why is OUR lame duck prime minister getting such an easy ride?
"It is just unbelievable
"It is just unbelievable that people can't be wed in Belgium, the heart of the EU because of their skin colour, "
Er, hello, earth to Blairwatch? Its "unbeleiveable" because its not true. Some racist couples refuse to be married by a black official and you rail that Belgiums "can't be wed" because of their skin colour?? You might as well claim that UK couples electing not to be married by a woman vicar represents people unable to be wed because of their gender. Get a grip.
Talking of war criminals,
Talking of war criminals, the US is looking to unseat the current Iraqi PM and replace him with Iyad Allawi. See the link to The Sydney Morning Herald to read how this man executed six handcuffed prisoners in front of US special services in 2004, shortly before becoming the head of the interim government.
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/07/16/1089694568757.html
The US has decided to quit Iraq now it has forced through the Oil law (which effectively steals most of the oil wealth from the Iraqis) and they will leave behind a brutal dictatorship propped up with US trained death squads. Allawi is a brute and, ironically, a former Sadam henchman in the Ba'athist party.
'Vermin' all over Europe..?
'Vermin' all over Europe..? That rings a few (highly unpleasant) bells...!
Quarsan seems to be getting
Quarsan seems to be getting a bit of stick over his St Niklaas post, so I shall leap to his defence.
I get the impression that BW has a number of Belgian readers and that they seem to have leapt to the defence of the Vlams Belang in an indirecxt sort of way.
Just a couple of notes :
- Belgians, on the whole, don't like foreigners, not even white ones. They like the colour of their money, but they would like the money without the foreigners, if you see what I mean.
- one cannot of course prove it, but the sort of people who would refuse to get married by a black municipal official are precisely the sort of people who would vote for the Vlams Belang
- the Vlams Belang is a racist party, which has learnt to stay just on the right side of the law (its predecessor, called the Vlams Blok, was judged a racist party and was thereby declared ineligible for public funding; it then just changed its name - while cleverly keeping the same initials)
-- contrary to what one of your contributors claimed, the Vlams Belang is NOT the biggest party in Belgium, whether overall or otherwise. It is, however, - unfortunately - the biggest party in a number of Flemish municipalities. The other political parties have formed a "cordon sanitaire" against it, which is just about holding for the moment. The Vlams Belang of course calls foul.
Talking of
Talking of vermin...

Bonkers Bolton appeared on Jon Stewart's "Daily Show" last night. Highlight was Stewart laughing out loud when Bonkers said he thought White House staffers like Rove should be "held accountable for their performance".
The article is improved with
The article is improved with the removal of the VB reference but still fundamentally inaccurate with the 'It is just unbelievable that people can't be wed in Belgium...' reference because that is simply not the case. This article is an embarrassment even by Blairwatch's standards and is probably best just removed. Return to the poor grammar and Islamophile schtick you do so well.
It is just unbelievable that
It is just unbelievable that people can't talk about 9/11 on Blairwatch, the heart of the Blogosphere because of their political skin colour, but these sort of vermin are all over Europe.
You can't talk about 9/11
You can't talk about 9/11 here?!?....jeez, what a free place. It was all over American forums, and is probably influential in the fact that only a small percentage of people go along with the Official 'Lockstep' line.
If people don't want to be married by someone they feel is unnaturally out of place in their country, that's fine by me...it's what freedom is all about.

 Belgians, on the whole,
Belgians, on the whole, don't like foreigners, not even white ones. They like the colour of their money, but they would like the money without the foreigners, if you see what I mean.
This is similar to the UK where the politicians do not like the electorate (regardless of colour) but they like the colour of their money, and they would like the money without the electorate, if you see what I mean.
Catgate, anyone who's lived
Catgate, anyone who's lived in Belgium for some time will know what I mean. But it was good of you to leap to the defence of the Belgians.
Any comment on the Vlams Belang, by any chance?
30% of the vote in some towns and cities - not bad, is it? No comparison with the BNP, niet waar?
The Belgians are lovely
The Belgians are lovely people. I moved there to get away from the small minded (albeit not racist) mentality of most Britons. Belgium has its problems but I find the people very warm, from both sides of the language divide, even the VB members I've met seem friendly to me, even though I abhore their politics. I am sure there are scum bags in Belgium, just like the UK, but I feel no desire to return to the UK, and apart from my parents living there, would probably never visit again.
