More Confusion From Charles Clarke
Charles Clarke has expressed his displeasure at Labour MPs announcing their bids to replace Tony Blair as leader when he stands down saying that leadership plots weaken Blair's authority at a crucial time.
"There are serious divisions caused by those candidates for leader and deputy leader who have entered the contest before there's even a vacancy, who have publicly appointed their campaign managers and who prefer backroom conspiracy and plots to open discussion of the policy challenges we face.
"These actions weaken the party in any case. But they also undermine and weaken the authority of the prime minister when authority is important, as we see in relation to Iran today. These matters have to be dealt with and solved by a strong prime minister, with the support of the whole country. They cannot be addressed by a leader-in-waiting, and political divisions in the ruling party certainly do not help."
If this is the case then why would Clarke be plotting to to get David Miliband to enter the race for party leader and hinting that he'll run himself if Miliband sticks to his position of not running and supporting Gordon Brown? One minute he's saying that "A genuine contest may well be necessary", the next he's criticising candidates for entering that contest while at the same time trying to get his preferred choice of candidate to enter that contest. Could it be that Clarke is a little confused or just very clumsy in his own plotting to stop Brown or anyone from the left of the party? Presumably what he is trying to say is that there should be a contest for the leadership but no one should enter it until he says so and the only candidates are the ones endorsed by him. How very 'New Labour'. It makes a bit of a mockery of this statement by him:
"For all its great achievements, 'New Labour' has now become associated, fairly or unfairly, with a nexus of media-handling, perceived corruption, lack of openness and self-absorption which the public find distasteful - understandably so on the basis of what they are told [by the media].
He added: "Labour needs to show the people of this country that we have learnt the lessons of the last 13 years of 'New Labour' and that we are changing authentically, genuinely, really. The successor to 'New Labour' cannot be a return to 'Old Labour' as some so patently want and would so obviously lead to electoral defeat. But nor can it simply be a continuation, or even intensification, of 'New Labour' as some have argued."
By that last paragraph it sounds as if he's looking for a 'third way' doesn't it?

Well well well, UK lying
Well well well, UK lying again about Iraq.
Don't forget to take everything the government says about Iran and the UK sailors with a pinch of salt too.
Interesting comments from Craig Murray doing the rounds at the moment. I don't know much maritime law but he seem to think those maps being shown are not 'official' internationally recognised bounderies.
Listen up Charlie Clarke:
Listen up Charlie Clarke: neither the Prime Minister nor any of the rest of you has any authority anyway. What you have is mere power, which is not the same thing.
Christ, the Class of '68,
Christ, the Class of '68, eh? And most of them were Bennites. Except for little Tony, who probably didn't even know what the Labour Party was at that time.

as supposed "evidence" a map of an "Iraqui territorial water boundary" with no reference to any official international recognition or ratification or documentation of the alleged "boundary" tells you all you need to know about their case. They might as well have hired Colin Powell to give the powerpoint.
The fact that the BBC nowhere refer to this glaring absence of attribution, choosing instead to provide a no-info-graphic claiming to show "how GPS works" tells you all you need to know about what lickspittle complicit fucks they are.
you can allways rely on

Faye Turney's second letter.
Representative of the House of Commons.
I am writing to inform you of my situation. I am a British Serviceperson currently being held in Iran.
I would like you to know of the treatment I have received whilst here. The Iranian people are kind, considerate, warm, compassionate and very hospitable. They have brought me no harm, but have looked after me well. I have been fed, clothed and well cared for.
Unfortunately during the course of our mission we entered into Iranian waters. Even through our wrongdoing, they have still treated us well and humanely, which I am and always will be eternally grateful.
I ask the representatives of the House of Commons after the government had promised that this type of incident would not happen again why have they let this occur and why has the government not been questioned over this? Isn’t it time for us to start withdrawing our forces from Iraq and let them determine their own future?
