The saga of Wolfowitz's desperate attempt to keep his job continues, as he begs like a little boy told he has to go to bed early:
Wolfowitz told the board on Tuesday that a loss of confidence in his leadership over his role in a pay hike for his girlfriend, would be "unfair".
"I implore each of you to be fair in making your decision," Wolfowitz told executive directors who had gathered to hear his rebuttal of the allegations.
"Your decision will not only affect my life, it will affect how this institution is viewed in the United States and the world."
"You still have the opportunity to avoid long-term damage by resolving this matter in a fair and equitable way that recognises that we all tried to do the right thing, however imperfectly we went about it," he said.

He said his decisions at the time were made in the best interest of the institution.
"Ms Riza's external placement does not justify taking any action against me or warrant a finding that you lack confidence in my leadership," he said.
Doesn't your heart bleed...:) Although personally, I think I'm with Cassandra on this one:
I think we should launch a campaign to keep Wolfowitz as head of The Bank. He's done more to undermine its credibility and 'moral authority' than any number of critical, public campaigns. Under Wolfowitz the Bank's expensively constructed patina of respectablity is rapidly eroding, laying bare the brutal cess-pool of vanity and corruption that lies at the institution's rotten heart...
And in case you needed reminding - the ubiquitous youtube clip showing the man at his best:
wasn't he part of the same
wasn't he part of the same team who manage to do exactly that for the US of A ? He just can't help but piss everybody off can he?
According to a couple of
According to a couple of news reports this morning, our dear leader is 'in the frame' as a possible new President of the World Bank, to replace the departing Mr Wolfowitz.
<DEADPAN MODE='ON'>
I for one welcome this development, as clearly a man of such long established integrity and honesty as Mr Blair, universally popular throughout the globe, will help re-establish the World Bank's credibility and mitigate its long standing reputation for appalling graft and corruption.
