God Made Me Do It

Tony's decided that he does 'do God' after all. He praises the American system where politicians talk openly about God - or rather right wing Christianity - indeed it is obligatory.
But the chilling quote is this
To do the prime minister's job properly you need to be able to separate yourself from the magnitude of the consequences of the decisions you are taking the whole time.
Tony may 'do God', but will he ever 'do consequences'?
Meanwhile, God's more traditional spokesmen are also giving interviews such as this thoughtful piece on Rowan Williams (pdf):
The Archbishop is scathing, accusing them of being connected to “the chosen nation myth of America, meaning that what happens in America is very much at the heart of God’s purpose for humanity.”
In today’s world it is easy to see why people would believe such an idea; America seems so intrinsically involved in everything. The Archbishop recognises that: “We have only one global hegemonic power at the moment.” But, he propounds, “It is not accumulating territory; it is trying to accumulate in?uence and control. That’s not working.” Far from seeing this positively, he describes it as “the worst of all worlds,” saying, “it is one thing to take over a territory and then pour energy and resources into administering it and normalising it. Rightly or wrongly that’s what the British Empire did – in India for example. It is another thing to go in on the assumption that a quick burst of violent action will somehow clear the decks and that you can move on and other people will put things back together –Iraq for example.”

So far, neither Tony or The Almighty has explained why God was telling the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Pope that going to war in Iraq was wrong, but was telling Tony to go bomb the bastards.
And that is why we should keep religion out of politics.

" Blair feared faith
" Blair feared faith 'nutter' label"

"In an interview for BBC One's The Blair Years, he said that his faith had been "hugely important" to his premiership."
Which neatly explains why he did not think there was any problem in joining in with Dubya's new christian crusades in the East. As we all know there never was any military justification for this action, the global corporates who pay for our leaders' elections wanted the war to establish control of energy before Putin or the Chinese could grab it as well as all the direct arms supply and 'private security' revenues whilst the presidents of the US and UK both thought that God wanted them to bring christian democracy to those infidels in the middle east.
What is terrifying is not their personal religion but their hubris in thinking that they understand the mind of something so advanced they call it a god, this is as laughable as a bacteria claiming to understand modern economic theory. Of course these actions do, almost, make one wish that there was indeed a god, if only to see the expressions on Tony and Dubya's faces when they get to the pearly gates St Peter reminds them that their 'God' is in fact the god of Christians, Jews and Muslims and may not be particularly happy with the mass murder they have committed in his/her name.
Tony has already provided ample evidence of being a demented fundamentalist in supporting the 'City Academies' teaching creationism (see Cash for Honours), we need legislation to permanently separate church and state. No 'faith school' should be considered to be a school as, by definition, it will provide a bias in at least religous education, they are not charities, they are not 'for the benefit of the community', they are divisive and designed to maintain and extend the power base of those sects of the churches that run them. See Northern Ireland if you need any more evidence, schools exempted from tax or paid for with our money are for education, not brainwashing. If the churches wish to indoctrinate their new generation of customers that is what Sunday Schools are for, pyramid selling scams are already illegal for good reasons.
Further, no politician who suffers the mental disorder to this extent should be allowed to serve in public office for the reasons Tony has demonstrated to such effect.
I have said for a long time
I have said for a long time that anyone wanting to go into politics as a "career" should be sectioned under the mental health act. This not only proves my case but also may prove that those who "have a calling" should go with them.

Good example - no one understands modern economic theory. Least of all modern economists.

Oh yeah, and that worked out so well...
Tony Blair’s coming
Tony Blair’s coming conversion to the Catholic faith will not be welcomed by all Catholics. There are many in the Vatican, and the Catholic church in this country, who wonder how a politician with his voting record can be admitted to the church.
"It is one thing to take
"It is one thing to take over a territory and pour energy and resources into it ......"
I don't think that the Archbish. is necessarily in favour of colonialism. But his point is a good one, that the Americans don't seem to have come to terms wirth the fact that invading a country means taking over responsibility for it and that that is an expensive business. Blair hasn't come to terms with it either: he was responsible for turning Iraq into a failed state because there was no plan for what to do after the invasion but he continues to blame the Iraqis ofr it.
