Iowa - Let The Games Commence
And they're off, well, apart from Giuliani who's saving his powder for New Hampshire. The convoluted presidential selection process is underway, boring the pants of most sensible folk for the next year.
The rest of the world is waiting for two things:
1. The departure of Bush into obscurity
2. To see if the US will depart from previous practice and not elect an idiot.
The race is to find a candidate and each one is desperate not to cock things up so we get hours of bland and mediocre soundbites that signify nothing, such as "I want a strong America" ad infinitum. The result is something that is not 'policy-lite' but entirely devoid of policy.
What policies do the candidates advocate? How will they address the massive problems once in office? Silence. Significantly, in the last day oil crept to $100 a barrel. Now there's a problem.
One aspect that we're watching closely is the further decline of the Neo-cons. Unusually this Presidential race has no sitting President, or Vice-President running. I guess even Cheney couldn't work out a plan to get himself elected and that is significant. The best they can do is rally behind Huckabee.
Whatever happens in Iowa, we've got months of this ahead of us.
Neo-cons rallying behind
Neo-cons rallying behind Huckabee? There's a load of 'em, including Norman Podhoretz (nPod), on Giuliani's staff.

Some of the minor candidates do seem a little more explicit with policy, e.g. Kucinich and Paul. These two have actually backed each other, in spite of having radically different domestic policy agendas. A Paul/Kucinich independent candidacy could be interesting.
 I agree with the above.
I agree with the above. Huckabee is not a serious neo-con, he's the southern religious candidate (covering creationism/abortion/adultery etc). Guiliani is the serious neo-con and is nose-diving. The freepers/neo con backup is Fred Thompson who is bleeding from the knees and probably won't make it out of Iowa. Romney is anyone you want him to be, but will probably be Hillary/liberal/let's bomb the rest of the world compassionately if elected. John McCain is for very, very old people, and is therefore staging quite a revival at the moment - only very, very old people vote. And Ron Paul is the joker in the pack. (Who will probably beat and thus humiliate Fred Thompson, Free Republic's pet candidate).
You're right of course. But
You're right of course. But whoever gets elected, they will have done loads of deals behind the scenes, with the big money men. The guys who own the banks (not the ones in the sub-prime mire), the arms businesses, agri-chemicals and of course the Haliburtons et al. That means whatever they say their policy will be when they get in, you can be sure of one thing; it won't be that.
Until the American people themselves wake up, who the world gets will be just another anti-Kyoto, Iran shafting, Zionist loving fuck-wit. Even Arnie in Califronia knows more about the world than the presidential candidates; and that is saying something.
All this stuff about Zionism
All this stuff about Zionism controlling America, a la "The French Connection" ianthewitness.com, and Daryl Bradford Smith. It's scary but is it true?
The military Industrial Complex is alive and kicking but is it really controlled by Zionists? And is Blair one of them?
Something else of interest:
Something else of interest: (most of) the candidates' views on limits to executive power (and thus rule of law):

John Edwards has been making a critique of the Washington system, including lobbyists and the media, a central part of his campaign. Even if he doesn't win, or he does but fails to live up to his promises, he is raising the profile of these issues.

 Well, I was right about
Well, I was right about Guiliani flaming out. 4%? As the neo-cons neo-con, with a list of foreign policy advisors which make Cheney and Wurmser and Wolfowitz look like pink pansies, its a relief. But Thompson's still in there, beating both McCain and Paul. Paul did 10 which ain't bad and it ain't good.
McCain looks good for New Hampshire. Will Edwards do better there, once again beating Hillary?
The fact that Guiliani is
The fact that Guiliani is actually running for president and not in prison for his part in 911 shows just how Fucked up the US is.What a scary sick land it is.

I notice that in his words
I notice that in his words of thanks, Barack Obama talked of America saving the world. Same old ambitions then - nothing new there.
"New Hampshire debates:
"New Hampshire debates: Democrats and Republicans embrace US militarism"
"Both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are instruments of the American financial aristocracy"...

To be honest guys, after
To be honest guys, after Hilary winning last night and the comments my the leading contenders in the primarys, we should not get our hopes up that the American people can elect someone with decency, who will uphold international law, and lastly bring back some sort of ounce of respect to America.
They did elect Bush twice..... even after he should have been locked away in a dark room somewhere.... It seems these new candidates would do the same thing if they were in his shoes.

"But the truth is that McCain is the candidate we should most fear. Not only is he to the right of Bush on a whole range of subjects, he is also the Republican candidate most likely to dispense with Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama"
"McCain is third-generation Navy royalty, raised from a young age to be a senior figure in the armed forces, like his father and grandfather before him. He was sent to one of the most elite boarding schools in America, then to a naval academy where he ranked 894th of 899 students in ability. He used nepotism to get ahead: When he was rejected by the National War College, he used his father's contacts with the Secretary of the Navy to make them reconsider. He later married the heiress to a multi-million dollar fortune"
"Right up to his twenties, he remained a strikingly violent man, "ready to fight at the drop of a hat," according to his biographer Robert Timberg"
"This rage seems to be at the core of his personality: describing his own childhood, McCain has written: "At the smallest provocation I would go off into a mad frenzy, and then suddenly crash to the floor unconscious. When I got angry I held my breath until I blacked out"...
