Police Uphold Your Right To Protest
Well, no, they don't, not really, not if you're Brian Haw.
without warnings the territorial support group moved in and began violently pushing and man-handling people to the pavement. one young woman was grabbed round the throat and dragged. others were pushed from behind. brian was miving backwards towards the pavement with a camera to his face when officer U1019 lunged at him deliberately and without provocation. the blow was aimed directly at brian's face and pushed his camera into his cheek causing a deep wound.
Thanks to peacewisher in comments for drawing belated attention to this, that even if you keep an eye on the news outside the mainstream you can miss this sort of thing is a big worry. It's always been the case that the police in the UK will, left to their own devices, devise paramilitary thug squads (the early-80s SPG, for instance) and the TSG is clearly in that mould. Thanks, Tom. If the mainstream media CAN avoid an embarrassment for the establishment, they certain will do. We all have to be vigilant in these troubled times. I wish a mainstream journalist would explain to me what might happen to them in 2008 if they dare to publish the truth. Then I might be a little more sympathetic.

And has anyone seen an article in the mainstream media written by him since? And that was before most of the anti-terror shi*^ legislation.
OK. Yes, I know what you are
OK. Yes, I know what you are getting at. But Andrew Gilligan seems to have survived... and Brian's assault by police was even reported in Japan!
In the absence of UK journalists reporting in their newspapers on matters that should be of public concern, where does that leave democracy?
