42 - The Answer to Life the Universe and Terrorism

Why do they do it? Why are they so inisitent on extending detention? Even in a 'Government of all the Untalent' Jacqui Smith stands out as being particuly undistinguished and has recently been touring the media being completely unconvincing.

Watching her press her case - which amounts to "We might possibly need to do this at some point in the future. Maybe. So it would be perfectly rational to have it in place now, just in case" - under questioning is fascinating. She gives the impression that she's about to break down in tears and desperately sob at the cameras saying "It's not my fault, Gordon's making me do this".

Future crime. How very Orwellian.

There is a possibility that at some point in the future people might steal people's jet packs and use them to frighten ducks. Shouldn't we put in legislation now to prevent this?

Don't we have a pressing need to legislate launching private space rockets? There will come a time when unregulated space launches will cause a serious hazard to aircraft. We MUST legislate now so that we are prepared.

The Police have chosen today to announce a new initiative to fight crime, taken from Minority Report:

Young people who are believed to be at risk of becoming offenders are to be targeted in a new police initiative.

The move is part of a strategy for reducing youth crime in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, unveiled by the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Acpo says identifying potential young offenders early on could have a dramatic impact on cutting youth crime.

Efforts include sharing information with other services and extending a police presence in some schools.

New Labour: Fighting Tomorrow's Crimes Today. Today's crimes can wait.

"Young people who are

"Young people who are believed to be at risk of becoming offenders..."

That says it all, really. Obviously the police authorities think of "becoming an offender" as a "risk", much like the risk of catching flu or having a chimney pot land on your head. Certainly not something you deliberately choose to do.

In sharp contrast to the government's policy for handling epidemics of cattle disease, perhaps it should consider inoculating these "at risk" young people against those malign influences that force them, much against their will, to "become offenders".

No doubt the boffins can come up with something...

Isn't Futurecrime Dickian

Isn't Futurecrime Dickian rather than Orwellian?

just another small step that

just another small step that is ushering in the fascist regime that is to replace capitalism. capitalism is kapput. china/russia/iran axis is the new 'threat' that cannot be confronted until such laws exist to shut-up the dissenters of such madness. all we need is a small trigger to set it off and before you know it it's 1984 all over again.

Never mind future crime it

Never mind future crime it looks like this government (if you can call it that) is developing it's own little crime wave. What with Blair being questioned by the Police and now Peter Hain possibly having to explain himself to the "Old Bill" things are going from bad to worse. I wonder if Hain will now come out and say Jacqui Smith was wrong to diddle the Police out of their rightful pay increase. I'd put money on him doing so.

Surely what is needed TODAY

Surely what is needed TODAY is  a dossier on each MP and local goverment councillor, to be held by the police, so that they can pick out those at risk of becoming "forgetful" or "incompetent" or even those that are just breathing heavy.

Have others noticed that

Have others noticed that Jacui Smith looks very like Harriet Harman? In fact, does anyone share my growing suspicion that the Home Secretary presented as Jacqui Smith IS Harriet Harman. Maybe Ms Harman has been given a false identity while she waits for the funding row to blow over.

Not only do the two allegedly separate people look very alike. But has anyone else noticed that Harriet Harman has vanished? She used to be on television a lot but she has totally disappeared.

The most worrying thing this leaves open is What have they done with the real Jacqui Smith?

Well.........................

Does it really matter as long as she's gone?

Another very promising idea

Another very promising idea is that, since so many politicians like polygraphs, they should have to answer questions while hooked up to one. All sorts of scenarios beg to be implemented: PM's questions, of course; press conferences; appearances on radio and TV; campaign speeches; etc., etc.

If a polygraph shows a politician to be lying, or covering something up, they should be intensively questioned (with waterboarding in reserve if they prove uncooperative).

If they then discover, belatedly, that the polygraph is an utterly unscientific device that has never been shown to give reliable results, they can say so and stop suggesting it be used on others.

Yes because she might come

Yes because she might come back.Havine Jacqui Smith is bad enough but then we'd have two.

If a polygraph shows a

If a polygraph shows a politician to be lying, or covering something up...

You can perform these tests quite adequately without a polygraph. In the first instance one can tell when they're lying because their lips are moving. And in the second instance if they are taking public money and also taking private money they have sold the voter's interest in favour of a business interest. They no longer represent those that voted for them but a small group of wealthy individuals and businesses.

Dead simple, no grey areas. Private money for politicians equals corrupt politicians. Politicans are adequatly paid by the state, with incredible expenses, benefits and a ridiculous pension. If that's not enough reward for them then they should step down from public life. The fact we tolerate 'political donations' shows how far from a democracy we really are.

Polygraph tests, such as

Polygraph tests, such as they are, have an acknowledged problem when used on psychopaths. The absence of conscience seems to allow them to thwart the machine, which is looking for stress signs.

Rather looks to afford v. many politicos an easy pass.

Slightly off topic, but as

Slightly off topic, but as this is still "Blairwatch" why no mention of the "War Crimes" investigation that has been started by the police against the chosen one?

Wathed the uTube link provided by peacewisher. I know Blairwatch don't like conspiracy theories but .....

1  This video is very slow to download

2  I have downloaded and watched three others while waiting for this one

3  It doesn't seem to matter if I'm watching ones with lower or higher ratings

4  It doesn't matter if I start this one first or others first

In fact I still have not seen the whole thing!

Hope you've seen it by now,

Hope you've seen it by now, redadare, ... and parts 2, 3, and 4. There has apparently been an Internet cable break in the Middle East causing severe interruptions to traffic - so that could be your explanation.

"I know Blairwatch don't

"I know Blairwatch don't like conspiracy theories"

who else doesn't? let me see, well there's GW Bush, T Blair, the Neo-cons, the Zionists and any person that accepts the official story of 911.

those that 'don't like' conspiracy theories are usually  'head up the arse' kind of people or those benefiting from the conspiracy.

That conspiracy theory;

That conspiracy theory; well, now it is common knowledge.

Four major cables undersea cable breaks in one week? Terhan cut off from the Internet. Many other parts of the Middle East unaffected. Conspiracy indeed, but no longer a theory.

WER,

I'm glad to see that you're up to speed on tory party practice and policy, however I detect a certain lack of coherence in your arguement. Perhaps some photographs to go along with your observations?
