Will New Labour Sink To This?

One of New Labour's most starry-eyed acolytes, Luke Akehurst, has come up with a truly sickening and repulsive response to Davis' by election, emphasis added:
Maybe instead of Labour fielding a candidate in Haltemprice & Howden we should find a Martin Bell type candidate - preferably a recently retired senior police officer, or a survivor or relative of a victim of a terrorist attack, to run under the following 5 word candidate description: "Independent - for detaining terrorism suspects".
Repulsive and exploitative, one step away from the Kollerstroms of this world. If New Labour had any concept of decency left there will shortly be one less party member, or is that just me?
Or is New Labour under Brown still the party of Jo Moore and 'A good day to bury bad news'?

I've met him, I back him, even though he is a Tory.
He stands up for freedom against fearmongering.
That's my own personal opinion, because, guess what, getting blown up on the way to work on 7.7 didn't affect my ability to think rationally,have opinions and care about freedom and democracy. If anything, it mademe even keener on preserving the freedoms that lunatics seem keen to destroy.
As to the other passengers on my train, and their families, they have their own opinions about politics, much as the passengers on any train do.

I think Rachel's position just goes to show that experiencing something first hand doesn't necessarily lead you to come to the right conclusions about how to deal with it.
If anyone has an ethical implant device, could they point it at Luke.

In which case why suggest putting a victim of terrorism up as a candidate, if their victimhood doesn't mean they're any more likely to come up with policies that are 'necessarily right'? Oh, I was forgetting, it's not the actual *candidate* that's the issue here, is it? It's the *message* you send.
Insult to democracy all round, really, implying that all that matters is the spin. Truly a New Labour classic in the making.

I've already sent Smeato an email that points out the futility of such an action! I finished the long email with these words of wisdom:
"Of course if you’ve looked at the civil liberties issues, understand them fully and don’t agree with David Davis then by all means have a go! But, I suspect this is one occasion when “Setting Aboot You!” may not be a wise move."
Just goes to show the new lows of NuLabour! They are probably struggling to find someone in their own party's candidate lists that supports the 42 day internment limit.
