Hope Vs The Power of Nightmares
In common with the rest of the civilised world, Blairwatch is hoping to see President Obama in the coming days. Not that we expect much from him, he'll be another centrist, nor will he be able to carry out a radical agenda with the very pressing problems he's got ahead of him.
However, it will be a pleasant change to have a president who is fluent in English.
Most Obama supporters know little of his policies and are atracted by his message of hope, of trying to be a better people, a better nation. The best example of this is his speech addressing the issue of the Rev Wright, described by the Daily' Show's Jon Stewart as "And so, at 11 o'clock AM on a Tuesday, a prominent politician spoke to Americans about race as though they were adults." Indeed. Read and watch the speech here.
Against this, we have John McCain's descent into the gutter.
It is, as our friends over the pond say, a no brainer. This election is, if you pardon the terminology, black and white. Hope vs Fear.
If McCain wins, then God help all of us.
The latest polls taken
The latest polls taken yesterday and today have Obama extending his lead.
Obama's margin of victory will be too large and the Republicans too demoralized for them to steal it.
Not only can Obama speak English, he also believes in science.
Afterr eight years of the Dark Ages, a moderate centrist sounds fine to me.
I will literally be
I will literally be gobsmacked if Obama does not win. I don't think that we'll see major change from his term, but he's walking in to a full plate. When it comes to voting for change, we need to be more concerned with those members we elect to Congress and the Senate. They are the folks making and passing legislation. The President is more akin to a ship's captain - a very big ship, with a very small rudder.
Barack Obama's speech on
Barack Obama's speech on race contained some really moving themes. It was also profoundly dishonest. He linked his poor, old granny's generational stereotypes with the hate speech that passes for theology in his long-time church. It was a cynical use of his "typical white" grandmother card to get out of the political hot water that he had, himself, heated to a boiling point.
Obama jumped into the gutter with glee when he painted Hillary and Bill Clinton, life-long, advocated for civil rights, as racists. Nothing McCain has done can compare with the race-baiting, sexism and primary election/caucus fraud perpetrated by the Obama campaign.
I voted for McCain/Palin. With any luck, Obama will be handed his well-deserved comeuppance and the Democratic Party can reform itself as the "party of the "people" that it has long claimed to be.
Brilliant and profound
Brilliant and profound speech . I only had it from YouTube before, so good to have the transcript too.
Soon we will see either how much difference an educated and really intelligent president can make, compared to the opposite, or that it makes only a fairly marginal difference .
One does not need to be a raging conspiracist to recognise the Power of Lobbies .
