I can give names of people with objectionable views too, I grew up with them; some were teachers and friends of family.

What if someone's relative who is not BNP answers the phone and gets abused? These links should be moderated as it is against the Data protection Act and The European Convention on Human rights; this is the kind of blackmailing that Nick Hellen does.

Banks and Corporations get a pass, because, according to the UN, liable laws in the UK go against human rights when it comes to publishing anything about their crimes.

I think this is a form of McCarthyism. I find it worrying that people who might think of themselves of progressive cheer the Bosses wanting to put people out-of-work for their politics. First they came for the BNP...

Spread the good word about the BNP by publishing the list!?!?!? it promotes the BNP it doesn't damn it. It shows that the list is made up of normal human beings, not skinhead thugs. It'll make the people on the list stronger, more unified, it will show other people its ok to join a far right-wing organisation and it will make the BNP stronger. Those spreading the list are aiding the plight of the BNP, I don't understand why people can't see that. At worst it victimises them which is even worse if people start feeling sorry for them!

I downloaded the list because I had reason to believe my employer was a member. I found out he is and WILL be using it as evidence that he has discriminated against two of my collegues. Good for those who are spreading the list around. We have a right to know who is racist and stupid enough to join this extremist organisation.

I feel very uncomfortable about this, and I'm surprised at the lack of the usual, balanced responses that I would normally associate with this website.

First of all, the BNP does not have the monopoly on rounding up all racist people living in this country. I think we can safely assume that there are far greater numbers of people who hold prejudices of one form or another who are not, for whatever reason, BNP members. So I'm not entirely clear how publishing the list is meant to "help". in this respect.

Second, there are clear breaches of data protection here - are we saying we are anti-ID cards, because of the idea that someone can illegally access that information, but it's ok to look over this list?

Third, thank you to straightchriss for pointing out the fact that the likely fall out of publishing this list is going to be at least as damaging to the families and friends of the people on the list, as it is to the members themselves?

Finally, to my knowledge, membership of the BNP is not illegal. I don't like what they do or what they stand for any more than the rest of the posters on this forum, but I don't want to fight against their "cause" by targeting, excluding, even villifying individuals.

The Fourth Geneva Convention states that protected citizens must not be disriminated against because of "race, religion or political opinion." But isn't that happening here?
