Craig Murray Gives Evidence of Britain's Complicity In Torture
Posted April 28th, 2009 by Davide Simonetti
Craig Murray, the former British ambassador to Uzbekistan, has given evidence to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights. It was something he had been struggling to do so actually being able to sit in front of a Parliamentary committee and demonstrate that the UK government regularly received intelligence obtained by torture was something of an achievement. Craig Murray was sacked from his job as a UK ambassador for raising the alarm about our government's complicity with torture. He has been smeared by New Labour and attempts have been made to censor his writing.
Mr Murray's appearance before the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights is now available to watch on YouTube.
I have read about Mr. Murray
I have read about Mr. Murray before and have been intrigued by his actions and actions against him. He is obviously on to something if they are censoring his voice. The BBC link is already broken, possible censorship? Either way I am going to watch the YouTube later. Thanks for the links. Regards!
I've redone the BBC link.
I've redone the BBC link. They must have moved the article.

This is sickening. How can we expect other countries to respect the Geneva Convention when the so-called leaders of the world can't?

If you look across the
If you look across the Atlantic about the exposure of torture explicitly approved by the Bush administration, how long is it going to be before the effects wash up here. There's already pointers with the condoning of special rendition flights through UK airports, the imvolvement of MI5 in interrogations where the victims had been tortured, and a lot of circumstantial evidence coming up. So, what did Blair and Squealer Straw know and when did they know it?
well this is what the
well this is what the securuty forces do all the time, whatever the government

I was at Craig Murray's evidence session in person. I am an ordinary member of the public with no connection to Craig Murray or the FCO etc but have been following the story for a while and felt very strongly about the whole issue.
In the week since the evidence session, among the MSM it seems only the BBC has reported it (to their credit). Perhaps this underlines Davide's point about censorship of Craig's writing. The Press Release was certainly circulated in advance. Lord Onslow said at one point that Craig was making a very serious allegation against the Government; no-one seemed to dispute the facts significantly and the next witness, Philippe Sands QC, seemed to indicate, with caveats, that the Government's behaviour amounted to complicity. How could this not be newsworthy?
The BBC report was IMHO a fair reflection of the hearing though, and made the key point that far fom seeking to eradicate torture, the UK is actually creating a market for it. Note the FCO's weasel words at the end ("instigate").
One thing which came out of Philippe Sands' testimony was a sense of momentum in terms of disclosures of torture and complicity in it - in the context of the new Obama regime - and he even spoke of an appetite for further disclosures which would only be "inflamed". Perhaps those both in Governmnent and the MSM who have chosen to ignore Craig Murray both now and in the past will experience no small degree of embarrassment.
It`s interesting enough..

Here is his formal witness statement, submitted to the JCHR in order for them to consider whether to hear his evidence (this was not a smooth process):
