Two MPs with starkly opposing views on the war in Iraq are standing to be elected chairman of the Parliamentary Labour party, it was announced today.

Tony Lloyd, a prominent opponent of the war and former Foreign Office minister, will take on Ann Clwyd, a backer of the war who was appointed Tony Blair's human rights envoy in Iraq, said a PLP spokeswoman this afternoon.

All 356 Labour MPs, including ministers, have a vote in the secret ballot on May 24. The result will be announced that evening, after ballot papers have been counted.

Should be an interesting result, as it is a secret ballot...
