Dear Condi

Following on from the post below describing Liberty's efforts to get the British Government to investigate CIA 'Torture Flights' from the UK, events have become more surreal.

The Foreign Office has said it had no evidence of such use of UK territory.

So according to Jack Straw, there is nothing to investigate. Case Closed.

Or is there? Because of concerns in Europe, where the UK hold the Presidency, Jack has had to write to Condi asking for an explanation of the torture flights in Europe, especially those involving the new member states in East Europe.

That's right, Jack Straw is pressing the US to investigate something his own ministry declines to examine.

Whoops!

it emerged that more than 300 flights operated by the CIA had landed at European airports.

According to flight logs seen by the Guardian, Britain was second only to Germany as a transit hub for the CIA

To take things a step further, the EU has threatened to punish and suspend voting rights of any state involved in torture flights. Will the UK bring it's disastrous EU Presidency to an end by being sent to the back of the class in disgrace?

There is an excellent column by Mark Steel in the Independent today (taster is here but you will have to pay a quid online or 65p for the dead wood version of the whole article).

A humorous take on the sick, distorted logic of the Bush/Bliar torture regime, excused as a 'war on terror' - satire at its best.

Here in the U.S., we know that Cognitive Dissonance is a terrible disease. Won't you please help? Help Rummy, Condi, Cheney, the Dear Leader? Please?
