The most god awful, incoherent political interview from a party leader I think I have ever heard.
Charles Kennedy came out from wherever he has been hiding today, and asked the Bliar a question at PMQ about British involvement in and knowlege of extraordinary rendition.
I haven't had a chance to catch the news today, so I put channel 4 news on whilst I was making tea, and because I was at a crucial stage with my roast potatos, i hit 'record' on the PC to catch the rendition piece.
I've just listened to it, I'll get onto the arguments later, but I am gobsmaked by how god awful Charles Kennedy was. The most incoherent babbling nonsensical pile of tripe I have ever heard from an allegedly serious politician. Not only does he look like an alcaholic, he sounds like one!
I have followed the rendition story, and I have a basic idea of what is going on, but I couldn't work out WTF he was trying to say. Sentences that didn't follow, made up words, endless looped non arguments. He wasn't even being interviewed, Jon Snow was just letting him talk, and talk, and talk...
Lib Dems should be ashamed of their leader. HE IS NOT UP TO THE JOB! Ming Campbell has been plugging away on this for some time now, asking the right questions and making the argument.
Then they let Charlie out, and he fucks it up completely. If the Lib dems have any respect for those of us fool enough to vote for them rather than simply not voting in May, or indeed any self respect, then they should be plotting how to keep the babbling useless idiot that is leading them out of sight! It's not rocket science, they just need someone who is capable of at least speaking in sentences.
My quick rough and ready audio grab is here [3.5mb MP3]. I'll link to and sample the article properly later, there was some good stuff in on rendition. But for now, just go 4 minutes into the clip...
[btw, my mic was on, so it picked up a little abuse shouted at the telly, sorry.]
It's the strange life of
It's the strange life of Liberal England. Charlie's parliamentary colleagues are perfectly content to remain the third party, and Charlie's prolixity is the vital means of keeping them there. Most of them would swoon if they were faced with responsibility for real decisions, instead of swanning around London having a nice time. Just think how much harder their life will be if there is a hung Parliament next time and they actually have to do some work. They're better off as they are, don't you think?

Charles Kennedy was part of
Charles Kennedy was part of David Owen's breakaway SDP - the prototype for New Labour. Not surprising he goes out of his way not to give TB a hard time.
There are good people in the libdems - people like Menzies and Lembit. They should be leading the party. The Libdem leadership should be challenging TBs appalling record and pushing for impeachment regarding his lies over Iraq. They haven't much time. Cameron will start digging into their voters straight away... Respect will continue to take votes from them as well... and next time round, in a tight Lab-Con squeeze (like 1964) all of them will be in danger of losing their seats.
Kennedy OUT!

Even though I was expecting it, it came as a very pleasant surprise.
