Torture is Such A Common Word These Days

Salon has a DVD of more Abu Graib torture. The images consist of;

A review of all the computer media submitted to this office revealed a total of 1,325 images of suspected detainee abuse, 93 video files of suspected detainee abuse, 660 images of adult pornography, 546 images of suspected dead Iraqi detainees, 29 images of soldiers in simulated sexual acts, 20 images of a soldier with a Swastika drawn between his eyes, 37 images of Military Working dogs being used in abuse of detainees and 125 images of questionable acts."

I've just reached the point where I just don't know what to do. Earlier today I've been talking to a Labour party member who insists that they should carry on fighting from the inside. A good man, a well meaning man.

But he is a member of a party that has lied the nation into an unjust and unecessary war, a party that has introduced rendition, torture ansd secret prisons into the core of theit anti-terror strategy.

A party that can't look at pictures like this and say "This Is Wrong".

I'm sick of Labour lies and self justifications, I'm sick to the stomach of Labour Party members telling me of their hopes to 'change from within'.

Your change from within has been so successful hasn't it? What have you achieved? Nothing. what does that tell you about the Labour Party?. It can be no more changed from within than the SS. Let's be honest, you're change from within line is just to make you feel better, to try to distance yourselves from what your party is doing. But you are responsible, you're members. You choose to remain members, regardless of the atrocities your party commits.

But, "Oh no, I'm trying to change from within", "I'm not morally responsible for the evil my party does". Bullshit. And then you pay your subscriptions, your money keeps the party going. You pay to belong.

I would NEVER belong to a party that allowed torture, that bombed civillians and lied about it, that ripped up precious freedoms. Why do you feel so comfortable in such a party?

Right you members of this scummy little party, tell us what good you've done, tell us what you've achieved, tell us what you'd say to these people.

Justify your support for Blair's party, justify the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill, or even better, justify the philosophy that says this is perfectly acceptable. I'm waiting and so are many thousands of dead Iraqi's.

Enough is enough is

Enough is enough is enough.

"Support the troops" doesn't wash anymore. It is time now for bloggers and independent media to join forces and take to the streets.

I can't stomach it anymore.

I can't watch it anymore.

I can't read about it anymore.

I HAVE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.

Organise. Let's go. Time to kick the doors in and stop it.

I do have a lot of respect

I do have a lot of respect for many Labour Party members, who have the best intentions. I've really been thinking about a conversation with someone from 'Jurrassic Labour', active since the early sixties, but all he could do was make excuses (it's when I go home to the valleys that I see the real Labour party, not in London, etc, etc), but these excuses and nostalgia (harking back to the days of Bevin etc) just don't wash anymore.

Indeed, listening to party members I am reminded of partners of alcoholics, battered women who cling to their drunken, out of control husbands because they think they can change them, clinging to memories of better days. It's an abusive relationship and the members are essentially enablers.

So party members, justify yourselves, or better still, tell us what exactly it would take for you to leave the party.

So far, illegal wars, torture, alignment with the most right wing US government in history, loss of civil liberties, privatisation, selling honours and influence, the spin culture, the abuse of the civil service, Campbell, Mandelson etc hasn't been enough.

What would it take?

I had the very same

I had the very same discussion with a Labour Party member 18 months ago.

"How can you stand by while this corrupt government wage illegal war and slash our civil liberties, to use torture evidence and ignore our's and others human rights abuses, all in the name of keeping power?" I asked him
"Because we on the left need to work from within the Labour party, to make things change" He replied.

Two weeks later, this man was so willing to change the party from within that he was elected a Labour Party councillor, dropping his previous community projects like a hot potato.

Six months after that he was controvertially elected Labour Mayor - controversial because in every other case it has taken at least 6 YEARS as a councilor to be elected Mayor. Obviously his New Labour credentials helped his career masively, and now he is acting as every other stooge in the Labour Party machine. He follows the party line to the letter.

Working to change the party from within or jobs for those boys who are willing to bury any attempts at free-thought and speech, and who will do ANYTHING to retain power including standing by as evil acts are done in their name?

I take no little satisfaction in his pending fraud case...

Organise. Let's go. Time to

Organise. Let's go. Time to kick the doors in and stop it.

been saying the same for ages--if the people in the states ever get it together and begin to do this, i'm so on the first plane back to join them.
